I still have this on vinyl somewhere.
I only got to hear Lou when he joined Philly so i had to play catch up with his earlier recordings. I recall my delight when i picked up a copy of this album at a 2nd hand store in Manchester. Not heard it in over 40 years. Must rectify that.

It's an excellent lp. More of a raw sound than the soon-to-come Philly years, and I just LOVE the largely male background singers.

    Agreed.
I think just about everyone recorded She's gone around that time. Such a classic song. Lou's version is not one of the albums highlights, but it is a solid enough album.

Lou Rawls, I've said before, is probably one of the most over-looked singers in American
music...Gospel, jazz, blues, soul, even pop, he did it all. Loved his work with Ray Charles
    too...

Totally agree. Such a richly versatile performer. He really could do it all with consumate ease.
One of my biggest regrets is that i never managed to catch the man live. He is one of the few who i did not manage to see on stage.

Definitely will give this a spin. My father LOVED Lou Rawls and I've grown to appreciate his voice and style. I don't know how everyone else feels but I'm in love with my streaming service.

I as well, SB. The streaming services definitely don't pony up enough royalties, but to deny their existence is way too ... conservative ... for me!
