One of Diana's best 90s performances Strange Fruit Live from Stolen Moments show

I wish the Stolen Moments jazz and blues show wasn't a one off special and that there had been a tour. But at least it was captured on film and recorded. My favorite 90s project from Diana Ross.

For me the highlight of the Stolen Moments show. A rare moment in time when all the glitz and glamour are forgotten and she sings raw from the heart. A very special performance. I so wish there remained a moment in concert where she remained totally committed to the emotion of a song. To a certain degree, even “Don’t Explain” has become an audience participation number.

Stolen Moments deserves to be 're mastered and 're issued with DVD / Blue Ray I only have VHS and its stored away in the attic with the VCR !! Miss Ross was on form and good voice, it could cash in on the USA v Billie Holliday film too .
Just watched the you tube clip, and been lost watching Ross performances and interviews from the 90's, 2hrs flown by !!!

SCANDAL! No reel-to-reel? And YOU call yourself a fan? If you celebrate, VGal, have a great Mother's Day!

She should have toured this show.
My only regret is that i was not there at the taping of the show. I was invited but i had a prior engagement in Australia which i felt obliged to fulfill. I did go on to regret turning it down.

I wonder if it was ever suggested she should consider a Stolen Moments Tour. Perhaps she just wasn’t ready to commit herself to a tour consisting entirely of jazz/standards at that point in time. I so wish she had recorded a jazz alum instead of ‘I Love You”. A Stolen Moments type album and tour would have been a natural around 2006.

It was very briefly discussed, but at the time she was committed to her contemporary career. It would have interfered with the great music she was coming up with in the 90's.
Perhaps she should have done it in the noughties. It could have been a smart move to help offset all the negativity engulfing her life.

She sounds great on this song, but the performance lacks something. It needed something that was not there. I can’t quite put my finger on what was lacking, but it was not fully developed into the masterpiece it could have been.

Ross has always needed a trusted genius to guide her career and performances. Without it, she never reaches her potential brilliance. Ross is a great puppet and a poor puppeteer.

Its always interesting to hear differing opinions. For me this is a heartfelt, tender and poignant rendition of the song. What is it you find missing Circa?.
My only gripe being i wish there had been more moments like this during her career.
For this reason, as regards live performances, “Didn’t We”, My Man” [[79), “God Bless The Child” [[Central Park), “Strange Fruit” and “Thought That We Were Still In Love” remain five standout moments in time where she forgot she was Diana Ross and became totally immersed in the emotions of a song....

I tend to believe she reserves her most heartfelt performances for times of personal turmoil. Most of the time she is merely going through the motions, and whilst that is perfectly acceptable i do tend to savour the performances where she is often in tears just prior to taking the stage and straight after vacating it. It's almost as if the time on stage is a brief and welcome respite.

I'm inclined to agree. I love Stolen Moments. I wish she had incorporated more Jazz into her career [[but more Films more than anything!)

Stolen Moments is now out of print on dvd. Why aren't her concert specials on DVD? They've even stopped selling Central Park on dvd.

But some of her specials were not ever released. Strange when we have everyone else's who were around at the time. I think most of Barbra Streisand's have been released. Even the specials her fans hate.

As much as I enjoy this show and the CD that came out with it, I will admit she seems a bit nervous at the start of the show though she warms up especially after she goes into the audience. That's why I wished she had toured the show, or had done an extended engagement at the Ritz. Imagine how amazing this already great show would have been once she and the musicians had done it together a few times.

I agree Spreadinglove this show would of been a hit if it was a Brodway / West End limited run, as Ms Ross would of had the opportunity to be come more familiar with the songs, throughout this performance she shines on the Billie Holliday songs, the ones she had been performing for over 20years at this point of her career .

It seems like a good idea almost 30 years down the line, but it was not practical for her at that particular time. I think it could have worked in the early noughties when she perhaps needed something like this to focus upon.

I think it being "one night only" makes it so special...
