Claude Mougin

A name you may not be familiar with, but definitely have seen his work.

Claude is a French photographer, famous for the LP covers of some of the greatest artists of the late 70's, including Olivia Newton John, Shawn Cassidy, Karen Carpenter, Gladys Knight, Smokey Robinson, Crystal Gayle, Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, Jermaine Jackson.....the list is pretty impressive!

Most impressive is that he also was responsible for THREE post-Supremes LP covers: Mary Wilson [[Mary Wilson), Scherrie and Susaye [[Partners), and Diana Ross [[Why Do Fools Fall In Love).

Never heard of him but indeed seen his work. The Diana and Mary Lp covers are definitely good. Simplicity at it's best and stylish! I think the Partners cover could have been better. The flowers and heavy patterned chairs are distracting too much.


I think this shot of the same session works better as album cover.

I quite love Claude’s work, especially in the late 70s - though this isn’t his necessarily his doing, judging from the Scherrie & Susaye publicity shots [[and the ones on the back cover of Partners) - looks like someone at the Motown art department did a little airbrushing on Susaye for the front cover in order to give her a different hairstyle!
