"Love Child" Massive hit by Diana Ross and the Supremes

"Love Child" is one of the most remembered songs of the 1960's. I wonder if it's success surprised Motown.

It sold 500,000 copies in one week and 2 million copies for the year, 1968!

it was insanely huge!! i had read something a while back about the mega sales too. couldn't remember if 500K, 800K. but massive amounts.

from a chart perspective, it was equally as huge

    1. it entered a position 43 which was the second highest for the group ever [[behind Symphony at 39).

    2. it also entered the charts quickly - usually single start to chart 4 - 5 weeks after release. LC entered just a little over 2 weeks after release

    3. spent 11 weeks in the top 10!!

    4. after peaking at 1 for 2 weeks, it spend 5 weeks still in the top 10. that's VERY good. usually after peaking [[even if at #1), songs tend to quickly drop down and out of the charts.

    5. duration - LC and Someday are tied as the longest running Sups singles on the charts. both at 16 weeks.
