    Diana Ross Golden Globe Award

Yesterday on TheView Whoopi said that she wanted to make a correction. I guess on the previous days show it was stated that Whoopi was the first black woman to win a Golden Globe award. Whoopi wanted to make a correction and said that Diana Ross was actually the first black woman to win the award. In 1973 for new comer for LSTB. I didn’t even know that Diana Ross was the first black woman ever to receive a Golden Globe.

Diana had stated she is disappointed that her part in the emancipation of black women on film has not been acknowledged..it irked her that her contribution is largely ignored

There probably was confusion over categories, etc.

From what I can find, Diahann Carroll and Gail Fisher won Golden Globes a few years before Diana.

Yes they won for TV shows or specials. I guess maybe Whoopi was saying Diana Ross was the first to win due to a major motion picture.

Yes, that's why I said there was probably confusion over categories.

After Andra Day, many tv shows were saying she was the first black actress since Whoopi to win a Best Performance By an Actress in a Drama award. It is true but it left out that quite a few actresses like Angela Bassett, Mo'Nique, and Whoopi herself had won awards in other categories in the interim.

I’ve not seen anything like this - could you aim us where we could read it?

There was a short section in J. Randy Taborrelli's last book on Diana where he mentioned that some of her peers haven't acknowledged her accomplishments. He went on to say that when Halle Berry won her Oscar, she thanked every black woman who had ever been nominated except for Diana.

It was followed by a quote from Diana where she said that she wondered if people forgot. Maybe her work in LADY paved the way for Halle to be recognized for MONSTER'S BALL. Not that she had to be mentioned but she thought it would have been nice.

It should also be noted that this occurred in the period where Diana was depressed over RTL and the end of her marriage so she might have been really sensitive.

She didn't thank Cicely or Whoopi, either. I don’t believe she meant to slight anyone.

That was very admirable of Whoopi to go vocal about this. Diana would have probably never said anything so I am glad Whoopi did and it proves her character in so many ways.

Yes. I thought that was really nice of Whoopi. They even showed a really nice picture of Diana Ross.

Angela Bassett won for Best Actress in a comedy/musical. Not Best Actress. Mo'Nique won for Best Supporting Actress

Thank you. Good god. The Rossers are always trying to paint La Ross as a victim.
