Charley Pride was straight forward country, with an effortless style , and rarely trailed from his basic gentile sound which nailed him close to thirty #1 [[fifty top ten) songs over the course of fifteen years. He was the Country Music Association's Performer Of The Year in 1971...imagine that.... way back in 1971.... and without anyone having to have been woked....

He was a familiar , consistent, and welcomed voice on country radio from 1966 to 1988.
    RIP Charley Pride thank you.

Pride didn't do a lot of cover songs .... not from rock , pop , or Motown , but early on he did a version of DETROIT CITY as an album cut:

Very soulful guy RIP... I worked as morning news anchor at Detroit's top Country station in the early 80's WWWW... We didn't play a lot Charley Pride, because we were "Modern Country", and his style was more traditional...but he's been an icon and respected across the Country music spectrum for many decades... And by all accounts, a terrific human being...

he had been recently tested & was "negative", notice that all deaths are being reported as Covid -19, strange. He was a GREAT singer & everyone that knew him really liked him as a person.I know my parents were big fans.
