    Favorite album closer

so we had a great chat about which song best opened an album.

here's the other bookend to that discussion - which album just had a perfect track that closed it and wrapped it all up?

I think one of the most impressive and thoughtful ones would have to be All The Befores from Surrender

    Another great thread, sup_fan!

All The Befores is definitely my favorite Diana Ross closer.

Other favorites are Brown Baby/Save The Children, Come In From The Rain, I'm In The World and Smile

My favorite Supremes closer is a tie between:
    I'm In Love Again
    Ain't That Good News

Other favorites: Loving Country, You're What's Missing In My Life

Absolute favorite album closer: I'm In The World.
The whole The Boss album is an exclamation of independence, full of excitement and dancing, and then that final winding down, self-reflection, yet with the same message. A perfect ending to a perfect album.

    Most underwhelming album closer: Girls
I love the 1983 Ross album; it has some great songs on it and a wonderful opening track "That's How You Start Over," with also a beginning of the song with the piano -- perfect opening for the album. But the album feels unfinished and out of balance, which is emphasized by the last song, which is really out of place and rather dull [[and the lyrics sheet lists an extra verse that Ross doesn't sing).

I totally agree with "I'm in the World", Jaap. Just yesterday, during my morning walk, I was thinking about that song and it pretty much lifted my spirits. With all that's happening right now in our country, I often have this urge to totally disengage from participating in any aspect, good or bad.
    "I'm in the world
I must be part of it
    At last convinced
    To the right of it
    I'm in the world
    For some reason or another
    Sometimes I get up
    And sometimes I don't bother
    But I'm here
I'm here for, oh Lord, who knows?
    My light gets dim
    Then it glows, ooh yeah
    I'm in the world
    I'm in the world
    I'm in the world
    And being what it is
    I've learnt to look
To look beyond the tears..." Ashford/Simpson

Long Gone Lover and Ask Any Girl [[this album is almost perfect, except for one song on side two, but it's not the last one)
    Bits And Pieces
    I'm In Love Again
My Funny Valentine and Blue Moon [[each side ends very well)
    All The Befores
    Come In From The Rain
    Home
    Forever Young
[[even though I still cringe each time I hear the flubbed lyric; after you build a ladder to the sky, you climb every rung, you don't "climb every road." Why this mistake was not corrected is beyond me; was no one paying attention? I think Diana also flubbed this line when she performed the song in concert. She also consistently flubbed one word in live performances of Reflections; she got it right only once, on the Hollywood Palace performance and for years I wanted to go up on stage, shake her shoulders and say, "this is the greatest single you did with the group; get it right; what's wrong with you?" But I never did.)
