What are some of your best "Cheating Songs"

...and no I'm not condoning cheating!!!! LOL! One of my favorites from back in the day was "Caught In The Act" By Facts Of Life" and "Bumpy Road Ahead" By the Lovelites to name a few. This was true soul music

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbbaD0EWhNc

BTW I can really hear Ann Bogan doing the female lead part on "Caught In The Act"

    Wow !

    Let me get a little pre-Temptations in here Mr Tyson if you please;

The keyboards, bass, drums and guitar were killer........trying to step to this song was simply murder, sweat popping, dresses flying, feet aching, what a great record.....

    Classic Dramatic Soul !

Wait a minute both of the Mrs. Jones cuts were great, Billy Paul's and The Dramatics.....but this record has been on my play list for so long its absolutely ridiculous. Ron Banks and LJ cut this record when I was in the Air Force, my buddies and I drank plenty beers and shared many a story about this song..........since I have posted extensively about this song including the lyrics, I'll just let the song speak for itself.....ahem... "She was your friend from down the street, guess you might say we had to meet"........whoa !

Well since the two that came to mind were already mentioned: The Rain [[Oran Juice Jones) and Me. & Mrs. Jones, I think I would like to throw in [[reppin Motown/Supremes) "Stop in the name of love". Does that qualify as a "cheating" song?

    Clarence Carter -- Slip Away
Luther Ingram -- If Loving You Is Wrong
James Cotton [[et. al.) -- There Is Something On Your Mine

Although not a traditional "Cheatin' " song, I think George Jones' version of the Bobby Braddock/Curley Putman weeper "He Stopped Loving Her Today" fits in here somewhere.....

Yep, I see your edit. That makes more sense. Although "What's Going On" would make a good title for a song about cheating.

Considering that there were several instances were Motown writers changed lyrics and kept the music, could there be such a song deep in the vaults?

So true CD, loved their work on Carnival, Deluxe and Columbia......seems to me that I'm getting a lot of mileage out this thread...lol........just this morning, I glanced at the title of the thread and said dam some of "my best" ??/ Well this afternoon I put on the Dells " I Wish It Was Me You Loved" which before this thread was just a favorite track of mine. When I listened closely I realized that it was about a guy who loved a woman whose husband was cheating on her and of course the Dells were imploring her to cheat with them....wow!

Another favorite of mine is the song "Thought It Would Be Easier" by Shelby Lynne. This woman knows how to sing a song about a cheating dude. Although I realized this was a cheating song from jump street, there's a line in this song where she
laments about love gone wrong :

They never told me I'd be lonely,
    torn up and wasted
    but when you saw something
    else you liked
you couldn't wait to taste it
how was I to know about the way
    You were scheming
I guess I must have been dreaming

The bass line is hypnotic, a very compelling record to say the least......

Just about any Denise LaSalle song fits this question, since that is her specialty. The previous posters named two of her best [[Married but not to Each Other, which Denise wrote although it is most often associated with Barbara Mandrell), and the hilarious Your Husband is Cheating on Us, which is a lyrical masterpiece. She also did a song a few years later called Paper Thin, referring to motel room walls. It is one of several songs I have heard over the years from Southern Soul artists in which the story is about a spouse being in one room cheating, only to hear or find out that their other half is in the next room doing the same thing.

Ann Peebles in her prime also was great at cheating songs, such as I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down and You've Got the Papers [[I Got the Man.) I could probably think of dozens of others, since I love this type song.

I don't know how I could have missed the most complex whiny cheating related song ever ,that being the classic "Heard It Through The Grapevine" ,by Marvin Gaye ,and the equal classic ,up in your face version of Gladys Knight and The Pips.
I agree on that Don Covay track....Thats a deep situation.
Also I want to add ,Bobby Womacks ,"I Wish He Didn't Trust Me So Much" and Smokeys classic ,"Agony and The Ecstasy" and
Bloodstones ,"Outside Woman". That Bloodstone track is ....Deep!!!!!

Strangely enough, Walter Scott, who was the lead singer on the song, was murdered by his wife's lover.

John, I never have to sneak across the floor with my shoes in my hand because I always wait until I see the light in the window...unlike John Terry who often sees the England Football team through the light shining through the crack in the wardrobe door.

How about Freda Payne "Love on Borrowed Time" or Laura Lee "Rip Off"?
