    George "Horgay" Gordy A Playlist

A seldom lauded composer-producer, George Gordy, sometimes credited as Horgay Gordy, has a work of very good tracks and a few hits that he wrote, produced or co-wrote, that go back to the days when Eddie Holland was a solo artist. I have compiled a list of 15 tracks, sung by Motown's top girl groups, The Marvelettes, The Supremes and most notably The Vandellas, and an excellent catalogue of tracks by male vocalists that includes Jimmy Ruffin, Marvin Gaye, G.C. Cameron, Stevie Wonder, Bobby Taylor, Smokey Robinson and Edwin Starr. I have left out a few songs (including a Christmas song), but I think if you care to listen to these 15 numbers, you will agree with me that Gordy, as well as his usual collaborators Allen Story and Larry Brown, deserves greater acknowledgement from both critics and listeners. The musicians are all also outstanding (I think it is James Jamerson who contributes great bass lines in the Vandellas' tracks). Here is the list:

    1. Bobby Taylor – I Just Can't Carry On
    2. The Marvelettes - Beechwood 4-5789
    3. G.C. Cameron – You Forgot to Remember Me
    4. Martha Reeves and the Vandellas - Taking My Love (And Leaving Me)
    5. Jimmy Ruffin - Living in a World I Created for Myself
    6. Diana Ross and The Supremes – You've Been So Wonderful to Me
    7. Marvin Gaye - For Us Both I'll Be Concerned
    8. Martha Reeves & the Vandellas - In and Out of My Life
    9. Edwin Starr – Born Just to Be That Way
    10. Diana Ross and The Supremes – The Young Folks
    11. Smokey Robinson and The Miracles – Darling Dear
    12. Spinners – Bad, Bad Weather (Till You Come Home)
    13. Stevie Wonder – The House on the Hill
    14. Martha Reeves and the Vandellas - Hope I Dont Get My Heart Broke
    15. Marvin Gaye – You'se a Son of a Gun
