I have always loved this moving interview. It totally highlights just what an extremely loving and caring family Diana is blessed with. Sadly this was not a good time for Diana as you can tell from her demeanour during the interview. Thankfully, with loving support from her family she came through. “Love Is All That Matters”.

Yes, this indeed was a wonderful episode. As Ollie9 pointed out, immediately one could see that this was during some pretty trying years for Diana. If her children's admiration and love for her mother were just an act for the camera, they would deserve some Oscar awards. And they continue to be close to her today. We also got a chance to see the different personalities of the children. Evan really impressed me with how well he was able to articulate his feelings and narrative. One could see there was so much love going on in this interview.

I believe she was drinking all the time then. Shortly after this program aired, Diana Ross was forced into rehab.

I remember watching and taping this special when it aired. I watched it with my parents on Mother's Day and my Mom cried, hearing the touching song that Rhonda lovingly wrote and sang for her mother. In this interview, you can tell she was most 'at home' being with her kids. I am sure that this interview and hearing her kids' loving words did her spirit a lot of good during that difficult time.

If you don’t know about rehab. You really shouldn’t speak! Nobody recovers from rehab if they are forced! In order to succeed and recover. You have to want it for yourself. And Miss Ross surely has done that. She is truly an amazing mother and lady.

She had to be put back in several times after this. She had a problem with abusing alcohol and prescription painkillers aka opioids.

Ross, who liked to put cognac in her coffee before she walked on stage, also enjoyed poorly fleece wine after her shows. According to sources in the U.S., Miss Ross’s children became concerned as she drank wine day and night. ‘The pain pills were prescribed for an old injury,’ added the source. ‘But soon she was hooked on them too. She was becoming more and more depressed, and totally reliant on substances to make it through the day.

The old bitter one who "rarely goes into Diana Ross threads" forgot to cut and paste this part:

Ross, who liked to put cognac in her coffee before she walked on stage
, also enjoyed poorly fleece wine after her shows.

It was found that she did turned to alcohol and drugs after her 14-year marriage to Norwegian shipping tycoon Arne Naess ended in 1999.
‘And she was experiencing tremendous mood swings because of the pills and booze.’ Miss Ross seemed ‘disoriented’ when she checked into the Promises clinic, the source said. It was the second time Miss Ross has sought help after her traumatic breakup with Naess, whom she has since divorced.
Despite her personal and professional ups and downs, Ross has withstood the test of time as a performer with a career that spans more than four decades. She has won several major awards, including a Golden Globe, a Tony Award, and several American Music Awards. Ross was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 as part of the Supremes.
Ross was named the “Female Entertainer of the Century” by Billboard magazine. In 1993, the Guinness Book of World Records declared Ross the most successful female music artist in history, due to her success in the United States and United Kingdom for having more hits than any female artist in the charts, with a career total of 70 hit singles with her work with the Supremes and as a solo artist.
On November 19, 2017, Ross received the American Music Awards Lifetime Achievement Award. Ross performed several of her hits, ending with “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, during which she brought all of her grandchildren.

On February 10, 2019, the Recording Academy honored the icon and celebrated the rich history of her greatest musical accomplishments at the 61st Annual GRAMMY Awards
“She wants to be in great shape because she is someone who feels a sense of responsibility to her family and to her fans,” a statement from the singer read.
The only “blues” she has nowadays are the blue skies she sees with every new day of life.

A triumphant and inspiring statement on the power of determination to overcome obstacles in ones life. A good read. Thank you for posting the balance of this article; the earlier post was akin to the National Inquirer’s habit of posting only half statements to further an agenda...

...and if you knew what you were talking about, you would have kept your mouth shut here! Several months after being forced or made to go to rehab, Miss Ross was staying at another rehab ranch in AZ when she decided one night to get wasted and get behind the wheel of a car. She was found driving drunk up the wrong side of a highway before being arrested for "extreme DUI" in the parking lot of a closed video rental store!

Thank you Roberta for sharing the rest of that article. Safe to say that most of us here are glad that she made a full recovery. We celebrate her and the fact that she is happy and that she continues to bring all of us joy. Life is an incredible journey, as she herself has always said, filled with its ups and downs. Her humanness, which is subject to error but even moreso, also subject to strength, perservereance and success, is an inspiration to us all. When I look back at the past 25+ years as a fan, I feel humbled and emotional, seeing how far we've all come on this journey, together. I'm so grateful for Ms Ross and her music, and for those loving and supportive fans in our community.
