There would have been no Diddy w/o Harrell. His former group, Jekyll & Hyde, "Genius," spawned Tom Tom Club's monster cover. And Mariah's too.

Guy & Teddy Riley; who created New Jack Swing, also owe Harrell their existence.

Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love" was the original composition, the other songs sampled it.

Between fostering the careers of Sean Combs and Teddy Riley, and introducing the world to Mary J. Blige and Jodeci, there are very few non-musicians who had an impact such as his on the R&B/Soul music legacy.

From the late 80s forward, Andre Harrell shaped the music of the time. RIP.

Not to forget that he was CEO of Motown Records for a time in the 90s.

That was not his shining hour...but he'd made his mark before Motown.

Regardless, it is a part of his legacy, life, and obituary.

According to Andrew Flory, he was President of Motown from roughly October 1995 for the next two year period. He was also responsible for moving the company to New York City.
