    ABC Records

I was wondering if anyone knows who now owns ABC records and why havent much material from that record company been released? I have been wanting to get albums by Ray Charles [[yes, I am aware many of his ABC albums were released on cd at one point but now seem out of print and not available even as MP3's) Paul Anka [[Only a couple albums available), The Grass Roots [[Only seems greatest hits and anthology available), The O'Kaysions, Lloyd Price, Tommy Roe, and some others.

The ABC records archive is under the aegis of Universal Music Group, which, as you probably know, underwent massive losses of master tape material in their infamous warehouse fire. Sadly, most of the ABC catalog went up in smoke. I have heard that Universal may have digitized a large chunk of the library prior to the loss of the tapes; the skeptic in me feels like that is wishful thinking, at best [[or a corporate attempt at damage control, at worst). Let's keep our fingers crossed...

It is my understanding that Ray Charles owned most of his masters, starting with the ABC years. I don't know if that is still the case.

LOL! I feel you. I was holding out hope for some Rufus/Chaka outtakes.

The thing is--we may still get re-releases. They'll just likely be from secondary sources and not pristine remasters [[and alas, precious little vaulted material).

I suppose there is always Universal Japan too. Though I don't know much about that situation. Like what all do they have and what they dont have access to.
