Diana Ross & The Supremes Broadway Cover Challenge

With the lights out on the Great White Way, I thought it might be fun to compile a list of all of the show tunes the ladies recorded. I’ve gone with all I could think of from their original studio albums [[no expanded editions) up through Farewell. All iterations of the group are fair game as are all of the ladies solo careers. I suggest we keep it to recorded [[audio) versions only and not go down a YouTube rabbit hole. Outtakes, unreleased versions - all on the table. Have fun!

Diana Ross and The Supremes sing and perform "Funny Girl" is my favorite album of all their albums. It had the feel of a live Broadway Show.
Diana Ross is a Broadway Star by this recording.
Diana Ross won a Tony Award for her Broadway Show, "An Evening with Diana Ross" at The Palace Theatre.

    4. "Spring is Here"
    5. "Little Girl Blue"

    11. "I Didn't Know What Time It Was"

Jean sure does a nice rendition of this song. Always loved it. 'Twas a song that everyone-and-their-mother was singing back in the Merv-Johnny-Mike days and I don't believe anyone had a hit [[it is a tad slow in the tempo and lacks a hook or crescendo) but JML sure do the song proud.

There's also DMC's recording of Hair's "Where Do I Go/Good Morning Starshine" from Motown at the Hollywood Palace. Diana's Central Park take on "Family" from Dreamgirls surfaced on her solo box set Forever Diana. And let's not forget her magnificent "One Giant Step" medley from An Evening with... featuring A Chorus Line's "The Music in the Mirror," "What I Did for Love," "Improvisations" and "Dance: Ten, Looks: Three."

Mary recorded "I Am Changing" from Dreamgirls; Scherrie did the same for its "One Night Only."

"There's a Small Hotel" is one of my absolute favs from the R&H sessions. Should have made the album. Diana, Flo and Mary really shine on it.

Don't forget the Broadway tune that started it all for the girls [[as far as I can tell): "People" by Flo, Diana and Mary. Also Florence covered "The Impossible Dream".

Flo and Mary recorded "On A Clear Day You Can See Forever".

A track for Golden Boy's "This Is the Life" was cut at the same session as "More" and "Michelle". The IHAS booklet states that these songs did not get vocals. Of course later on the guys discovered "More" and "Michelle" did get vocals, so I guess it's possible "This Is the Life" may have also.

sup_fan: Don't worry that Holiday Inn was a 1942 movie; it was a Broadway show, too, although not until 2016. The Roundabout Theatre version, with the approval of the Berlin estate, deleted a song or two, along with the dated, unfortunate minstrel stereotypes of the movie, and it added several more songs from the Berlin catalog. The Roundabout's version was filmed and shown on a PBS series with four or five other recent Broadway shows in Autumn, 2017, if I recall correctly.
