    What’s wrong with Little Richard?!

Charles Wright made a video on Facebook asking for prayers for Little Richard. He didn’t relay any information about his health though. Does anyone here know about his current condition?

    You got a link?

Richard Penniman has lived a lifetime on this Earth. I really think his time on top of the music world was real brief yet those 18 months or whatever he spent recording his classics was enough for him to leave a lasting legacy.

Despite his conflicting views of his sexuality, he was truly a pioneer in LGBT music as well. Whatever happens to him, thank him for EVERYTHING.

There are only two rock and roll pioneers from the early years [[1955-1962) left: Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis, and Lewis is reportedly in bad health as well. I remembered with Bootsy Collins made a Facebook post about Richard not being well around 2013 or 2014 and his manager at the time denied it.

Best wishes. I had no idea that his recording career had been that brief. I assumed he had cranked out hits for most of the 50s and 60s.

He recorded up until the 1990s but it was pretty sporadic after 1976.

    Here's his albums:
1957: "Here's Little Richard" [[his only top 40 pop album; peaked at #13 on the Billboard 200)
    1958: "Little Richard" [[didn't chart)
1959: "The Fabulous Little Richard" [[post-conversion release; Specialty had to complete his original contract since he suddenly up and converted to Baptism around this time)
1961: "The King of the Gospel Singers" [[didn't chart; gospel album, funny he gave his album that really ambitious title lmao)
1964: "Little Richard is Back [[And There's a Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On)" [[1964; didn't chart)
1967: "The Explosive Little Richard" [[didn't chart)
1970: "The Rill Thing" [[didn't chart)
1971: "The King of Rock and Roll" [[#113 on the Billboard 200)
1972: "The Second Coming" [[didn't chart)
    1974: "Right Now!" [[didn't chart)
1976: "Little Richard Live" [[actually a studio album of re-recorded versions of his '50s classics; didn't chart)
1979: "God's Beautiful City" [[didn't chart; second gospel album)
1986: "Lifetime Friend" [[I guess it's his third gospel album but since it mixes gospel lyrics with rock and roll beats, it's a gospel rock album? Didn't chart)
1992: "Shake It All About" [[children's album)

    Singles:
1951-54 recordings didn't chart on pop or R&B at all. "Every Hour" from his RCA Victor period was considered a regional hit in the South, mainly in Georgia.

    1955: "Tutti Frutti" [[#21 pop, #2 R&B)
    1956: "Long Tall Sally" [[#13 pop, #1 R&B)
    1956: "Slippin' and Slidin'" [[#33 pop, #2 R&B)
    1956: "Rip It Up" [[#27 pop, #1 R&B)
    1956: "Ready Teddy" [[#44 pop, #8 R&B)
    1956: "Heeby-Jeebies [[#7 R&B)
    1956: "She's Got It" [[#9 R&B)
    1956: "The Girl Can't Help It" [[#49 pop #7 R&B)
    1956: "All Around the World" [[#13 R&B)
    1957: "Lucille" [[#27 pop, #1 R&B)
    1957: "Send Me Some Lovin'" [[#54 pop, #3 R&B)
    1957: "Jenny Jenny" [[#10 pop, #2 R&B)
    1957: "Miss Ann" [[#56 pop, #6 R&B)
    1957: "Keep a Knockin'" [[#8 pop, #2 R&B)
    1958: "Good Golly Miss Molly" [[#10 pop, #4 R&B)
    1958: "Ooh! My Soul" [[#35 pop, #15 R&B)
1958: "True Fine Mama" [[#68 pop)
    1958: "Babyface" [[#41 pop, #12 R&B)
    1959: "Kansas City" [[#95 pop)
1964: "Bama Lama Bama Loo" [[#82 pop)
    1965: "I Don't Know What You've Got [[But It's Got Me)" [[#92 pop, #12 R&B)
    1970: "Freedom Blues" [[#47 pop, #28 R&B)
    1970: "Greenwood, Mississippi" [[#85 pop)
1973: "In the Middle of the Night" [[#71 R&B)
    1986: "Great Gosh A'Mighty" [[#42 pop)

29 charted singles seem impressive but then when you break it down:
    9 Top 40 pop singles
    20 Top 100 pop singles
    3 Top 10 pop singles
    20 Top 40 R&B singles
    21 Top 100 R&B singles
    16 Top 10 R&B singles
    2 #1 R&B singles

As you see, most of his success occurred between January 1956 through January 1958, So I guess it's roughly 25 months but then again, he originally quit in October 1957.

Thanks for sharing midnightman. Little R is so iconic , I hadn't realized his actual success was that limited.
Interesting to see it broken down.

    Best thoughts to him.

His best moments was as a live performer and flamboyant personality that also managed to record some legendary classics.

But yeah, prayers to the Sweet Georgia Peach.

So apparently, Little Richard was battling cancer, from which he passed away from today! RIP
