Hi Marv!

This is what Michael McGill told me [[for my Dells story twenty years back): "The album [["The Dells Sing Dionne Warwicke's Greatest Hits", on Cadet in 1972) did not sell at all. Once the Dells dropped that album out there, Philly International saw a void and they put out a group just like the Dells, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. Teddy Pendergrass, who was their drummer, idolized Marvin. Once we heard Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes we knew then that somebody was able to dublicate our sound. PIR saw who was selling records out there."
"Motown also had a group after the Dells, which they called the Originals. Marvin Gaye not only produced them, but actually sang on the background with them, too. Berry Gordy told Marvin Gaye 'I want a sound like the Dells', and they got the Originals."

The group finally teamed up with Gamble & Huff in 1992 for the "I Salute You" album.
