Peace, have you purchased any new records pressed on the 180 gram vinyl by chance? I have [[not Motown, but current artist releases) and what gets me is they tout 180 gram vinyl as the best thing since sliced bread, but my issue with the new vinyl releases is they are not deep groove pressings. What good is having thick heavy vinyl if the grooves are basically shallow micro grooves? I have some [[what I call!) "player copies" of my favorite Motown albums, original pressings. Some have scratches so bad looking you would just know by looking at the LP that it is a clicking junker. To the contrary, many of the scratches are inaudible, even deep ones, because they are so deeply pressed. Just curious if anyone else has noticed how shallow the majority of current pressings are? Hopefully not to derail your post in any way PeaceNHarmony.

Hi Darin! I admit that I'm more of a voyeur when it comes to audiophile; there are just SOOO many differing opinions of what sounds better. I had not known of the track depth issue before. I think I love seeing these high-quality releases because I just love the idea of buying lps again - although I admit the cost factor keeps me from doing so ... But good for Diana that her excellent catalog gets this sort of interest.

You are 1000% correct. I have many "new vinyl" pressings and most are exceedingly disappointing. My new vinyl copy of "I Hear A Symphony" [[musiconvinyl.com) got a scratch on the Symphony track from me breathing while listening and now it skips. I have many other jazz vinyl re-issues that are similarly disappointing. The 180 gram designation is just the weight of the vinyl, not the quality of the cut.

There are only a few new vinyl issues I like. Most notably, I've been playing "Reflections" Mono for a week or so and it seems better, as does Bing's "Merry Christmas" and Ella's "Swingin' Christmas", the latter two I've been playing for several years. Others, not so much. Hate them and I always go back to old vinyl for its superior quality.
