The "Marveletts" Sing - LP, 1962 is one example of a printing error; on some of Mary Wilson's "Red Hot" 45, it says "From the Upcoming Album, Mary MARTIN".

Can you think of any others?

Here's a Motown Misspelling; the first pressing of Barrett Strong's "Oh I Apologize" the B-Side of "Money [That's What I Want]" The word 'apologize' is misspelled as 'apoligize'.

On the original pressing of Meet The Supremes, the track listing on the back cover has a song called "The Boy That Got Away" on Side 2 while the record label has another song, "Let Me Go The Right Way" in it's place [and another song "Time Changes Things" that isn't listed on the back cover at all]. I understand that both "Let Me Go The Right Way" & "TIme Changes Things" were last minute additions to the LP and that caused the errors.

On Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On, track 2 on side 1 was called "Please Don't Stay [Once You Go Away]". However Marvin sings during the song, "Please Stay - Don't Go Away". This blooper persisted until it was corrected sometime during the '90s and now the track is called "Please Stay [Don't Go Away]" [as it should've been].

On a UK cassette label, for TC2-EXE 1001 Various Artists - Tamla Party [[basically the UK 16 Big Hits Volume 1 TML11001 plus Motown Magic TML11030) - Marvin Gaye has a track called "One More Headache".

Diana Ross' 1993 solo box set lists "Surrender," but "I Can't Give Back the Love I Feel for You" is the actual song under that track number. The same set also lists "Good Bless the Child."

My UK Tamla Motown pressing from the early 1980s has that issue.

I'd never looked that closely at the label.

Some editions of Jr. Walker & The All Stars' Greatest Hits LP had Track 5-Side 1 listed as "Hip City [Part 1]" on the back cover but "What Does It Take [To Win Your Love]" is in that spot on the label [and on the record]. And that mistake was on the copy of the LP that I bought in 1969.

This copy of Stevie Wonder's Fulfillingness' First Finale album has a spelling error on the song "Boogie On Reggae Woman". The word "reggae" is misspelled as "raeggae".

The thing that strikes me odd about that one is the label itself. By the time Marvin recorded Grapevine, that old globe Tamla label had been retired for several years, hadn't it?

I have a copy of The Marvelettes "TOO MANY FISH IN THE SEA" [Tamla 54105 - Globes logo] misprinted as "TWO MANY FISH IN THE SEA"

At least "sea" was spelled correctly!

It's true that Motown had updated the Tamla label design by the time Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" came out in 1968. Sometimes on a huge selling single, pressing plants ran out of the current lables and used older ones on hand [with the older design] in order to keep up with the demand. Here's an older Gordy label used on another big hit from 1968:

I also have the Brown Bar 45 for this one, you tend to the pressing plants will utilise the pressed bare labels to use them.

Some pressings of the Supremes "Up the Ladder to the Roof" have the B Side listed as "Bill, When are You Coming BACK" and others have "Bill, When are You Coming HOME".

I feel that the title "Bill, When Are You Coming Home" qualifies is a missprint since The Supremes sing "Bill, When Are You Coming Back" on the record. This is also reflected on the credits on the Right On LP and the song's lyrics as well [as shown on the genius.com website].

I have the SHM-CD issued in 2001 UICY-94039-40 and the song Please Don't Stay [Once You Go Away] was not corrected on the back cover of LP as well as numbered insert of the copy of vinyl record.

In the CD era the tray liner, disc and the booklet for The Tempations 17 Greatest Hits [[Compact Command Performances) lists as track 17 "Hey Girl [[I Like Your Style"). The actual song on the CD is "Hey Girl", the cover of Freddie Scott's hit.

Another anomaly. Tempations 45 of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" b/w "Silent Night" was released in 1968, but the perimeter print says 1966.

This info basically came from a previous thread on here regarding The Miracles "From The Beginning" UK issue - TML11031.

The track listed as "Mama Done Told Me" and released on the UK edition of "From The Beginning" [TML11031) is by Herman Willis and is called "Come On". This track [[and two others by Willis) are in the Motown Vaults but are not actually owned by Motown - though I think Motown owns the tape they were recorded on. It looks like the engineer just sent the wrong tape to the UK, and as no-one there had ever heard it, or the Miracles track, it didn't get flagged and was released. Doesn't mean it was a Motown recording, though, and even if it was, it doesn't mean Willis got a contract.

Thankfully the CD reissue did not use THAT annoying version of the LP jacket, but used the Smash Hits Of '62 front art. For me, The "Marveletts" Sing is one of the most annoying LP fronts, along with The Miracles "Mickey's Monkey" front cover, from the early 60s.

On the Four Tops Lost & Found: Lost Without You collection, Track 9 on Disc 2 is listed by mistake on the back cover & the booklet as "Never Say No To Your Baby" [by Stauton & Walkler and released by The Hit Pack in 1965]. The song that plays is called "Never Say Naw" [Written & recorded by Percy Mayfield in 1965].

On The Marvelettes' Forever More: The Complete Motown Albums collection, Tracks 6 & 16 on Disc 4 "One Kiss Led To Another" & "Just One Last Kiss [Before You Leave Me]" are listed in the wrong order on the back cover and the booklet. 'One Kiss Led To Another' on track 16 and 'Just One Last Kiss' on track 6 is what plays on the CD. Don't know if this was corrected on other pressings of the collection.

On The Jackson 5's Soulsation! box set, Disc 4-Track 9 is listed on the back cover and the booklet as "You're The Only One" [by Jackie Jackson]. However, this was replaced at the last minute by "Ooh, I'd Love To Be With You" [from the Skywriter LP]. Don't know if this was corrected on other pressings of the collection.

Another “misprint” I have is not the writing, but the speed. My copy of the Valerie Simpson 45, Silly is pressed at the wrong speed. It too fast played at 45, yet it’s too slow at 33 1/2. Never bothered to return it. I was a kid. My sister was the original owner. I don’t know why she kept it.
