    Ja'net Dubois Has Passed

She passed in her sleep this morning. If I hear anything else, I'll share.

I am very sorry to hear this. Great actress, singer, and lady. I will remember her most as Wilona on "Good Times". Rest in peace Ms. DuBois and thank you.

She was fantastic. I hated to learn of this. Feels like family.

This is terrible news. I also remember her for singing the Jeffersons theme.

You're more than welcome, my friend. Yes, indeed, the Golden Age! Word has it that this role was the one that put her on Norman Lear's radar; she was cast as Willona a year later, and the rest is history.

A commentator I admire made an observation about her today that seldom does an actor take a "second banana" role and turn it into a cultural touchstone. Ja'Net was something special; much like Jackée in 227 half a decade later, her work helped elevate the show and cement its success.

Absolutely; she co-wrote it as well. My dad had the great good fortune to hear her sing it live every night of the National Baptist Convention sometime in the early '80s; he also met her and said she was absolutely charming and lovely.
