O'Jay cover songs Tempts would have killed

    Hi all
Today I was reading a write-up on one of the O'Jays songs. Eddie Levert had mentioned that he had grown weary of the message songs by that point.

The O'Jays did have some really great message songs along with some great ballads and love songs.

So I'd like to ask you all: what O'Jays' songs would you have liked to have seen the Tempts cover? And does anyone know if the Tempts covered any O'Jays song live in concert?

    Here is my list:

    1. Back Stabbers - Dennis principle lead
    2. Put Your Hands Together - Dennis principle lead
    3. For the Love of Money - Richard Principle lead
    4. Darlin' Darlin' Baby - Richard principle lead
    5. Forever Mine - Richard principle lead

This early gem, with the late William Powell on lead. I can hear Eddie tearing this up. On a side note, I can’t believe Otis never sought William out to replace Eddie Kendricks in the Tempts. By the time they got with Bell, Eddie Levert and Walter were the permanent leaders for the O’jays. Once they teamed with Gamble & Huff, he was solely a background singer. Otis could have gone to William and said, “you can be a lead singer if you come join my group”.

Good question, but i really can't hear the temps covering them, great songs but i don't know...maybe[i dig your act-with dennis on lead]or[oh how you hurt me-with eddie leading the way]but that's about it,of course they could've sung these songs but certain songs are tailored to certain groups,if the o'jays had covered[my girl]it just wouldn't work!

I agree almost 100 percent. I can only imagine the Classic 5 era Tempts covering some of the early Imperial recordings. But I can’t hear The Tempts doing any of their iconic PIR recordings of the 70s. I say let The O’jays keep what’s rightfully theirs and vice versa.

I agree with most of your list. However, "For the Love of Money", I could see Otis [[one very rare performance) on principle lead.
