Yes, please! Any Dee Dee is awesome, but she was at the top of her pop/jazz game in this era.

I was lucky to see Dee Dee live at NYC's The Bottom Line on the 'Just Family' tour; wonderful memory.

I am not terribly familiar with her so I will have to ponder on this one. But as I have said often on here, the most exciting news is to see that somebody out there wants to keep making CDs so that people like me can keep buying them!!!

Can anybody give me any insight into the content of these four albums? I just finished listening to her Memphis album and liked it very much but I wonder if it was maybe because I was familiar with the songs and would have liked them by anybody.

So what is her style like? As a general rule I cannot get into a jazz or lounge-type singer, so if that is her style I might not like this collection. But if she has a funky or playful or soulful side, or even if she flirted a little with disco, I might be more interested.

For this phase of her career, think the seam that Patti Austin/Angela Bofill/Randy Crawford/Phyllis Hyman were working at the time. You've hit it on the head with funky/playful/soulful/disco, but with a definite jazz sensibility. She started her career as a straight-ahead jazz singer, which is her domain now as well, so her earlier and later work might not be your cup of tea. But I believe you'll surely appreciate these albums.

Agreed sansradio. This was my favorite Dee Dee era. The four vocalists style you compare her to are amongst my all time favorite female vocalists. I was slightly disappointed when she moved back into straight jazz despite her expertise in the genre.
I think you will appreciate these albums David. You certainly will not be disappointed with the quality of her vocals, and the songs themselves are generally consistent and of a pretty high standard.

Thanks guys. I have albums by all four of the ones you mentioned and of course Phyllis is an all-time favorite. Her style of course was mostly about angst and heartbreak, which I gather is not Dee Dee's style. I will probably take the plunge when I see a good sale somewhere.
