    Remember Val Young?

One of George Clinton best discoveries. Rick James produced some of her recordings. She was from Detroit. This was her biggest hit for Motown in 1986:

Mine too. It really should have. I was living in Philly when this came out. One days she appeared on the local dance program "Dancin' On the Air" and she was the greatest singer/performer I had seen in a while. I wish I still had the VHS tape from that show.

Wow! I didn't know that. I know she recorded with Tupac in the early 90s. Thanks Luke!

It got a lot of radio airplay. I thought it charted higher.

Mariah Carey incorporated a bit of this into one of her remixes a while back.

A little trivia about Val Young. She grew up in the Brewster Projects in Detroit.

There is not a lot of performance video of Val on Youtube and I can kick myself for not keeping the VHS tape I recorded of her on television in Philadelphia. This is something I found:

She sang background for Bobby Womack for a time in the early 2000s. He gave her a solo spot during "You're Welcome, Stop on By" for his BET on Jazz special; their back-and-forth banter was hilarious.
