    MARVIN GAYE & KIM WESTON-baby i need your loving-1965

This is a nice version.....BUT listening to it tells me that the Four Tops are just masterful! LOL! Marvin is good and gruff in some spots here, but he was not "gettin' it" like Levi did on the original. Levi "cried" with his voice, which was always amazing to me his ability to do that.

In the background, you again have the Andantes and it sounds very light without the voices of the Four Tops there. Give a listen. Tell me what you think:

Motown pushed their artists too hard sometimes. It can benefit being part of the assembly line but eventually you're gonna get worn out.

I know what you mean. I think it was Brian Holland who said that they would intentionally set the key higher than Levi Stubb's normal to force him to almost strain to get up there on some recordings. Levi was a beast! Through all of that, he still was able to sing live in concert some 40 years on.

The Funk Bros are in great form on the Gaye/Weston version of this song, they shine over the vocals.

This version is not bad. It, to me, has more of a supper club feel to it. Like you said, Marv, Marvin does get gruff in some places, but overall a supper club feel.
