My FEMA buddy from Kansas and I had lengthy discussion a few years ago about which of us had eaten the most spam as kids. I told him my mom would cut thin strips of it and fry it...and tell us it was bacon. He ended the argument by saying his mom packed a few "paddies" together once....and made a Spam roast.

He wears the crown to this day.

Ate lots of Spam as a kid. Mostly Spam Salad [[diced spam, diced tomato, chopped lettuce w/mayo) on white rice. Spam burgers were kind of cool though. LOL. Wouldn't eat spam now, unless I had to. Spam Roast does take the crown though, never heard of that before!! If my Mom had I'm sure we would have had it!! LOL.

Listen there are two things that bug me in life as a kid - SPAM was one of them. Let me tell you, MY MOM, may GOD Keep her soul, had a real creative hand with that 'meat source'...it wound up in tomato gravy with onions...flour gravy...battered and fried...in soups...salads...dipped and flipped...to the point where *I HATED SPAM*. [[I don't even eat Pork). My closest friends KNOW not to mention that mystery meat in conversation because it actually raises my goosebumps. EECCCHHHHKKKK!!!!!

@Paladin - Monty Python is HERE TO STAY! The SPAM has got to go! :P... I get teased by my so called life long friends about this skit below all of the time. LOL!!!

We used to have it fried with eggs/ rice & toast. Then there was sliced spam on toast w/Miracle whip and grilled spam & chesse.....

I used to always tell my Mom, you sure make it go a long way....lol.....


PS: I never liked the taste of spam, but it beats hunger everytime. Then I guess you'd call that an acquired taste.... as I got older we started calling it mystery meat !

Never ate spam in my life. Back in the day in Philly, if someone cracked on you for eating spam, you had to "take it to the curb"!

Spam and cheese grilled is good! You just must fry the spam FIRST and get it brown. So you all who didn't eat spam... did you eat "Potted meat food product"? Or it close cousin, the Underwood deviled ham?

Vienna sausages never seemed much different from mini hot dogs to me. Now, all of you who are raggin on Spam, I sincerely hope that you don't partake of the chitterlings or the pork brains, cause if you do, you got no room to talk! Just sayin.

Jill c/mon most of us have tongue firmly planted in cheek, however as far as chitterlings and pork brains go, one I couldn't stand looking at, and the other smells like death warmed over, so no I don't partake of those products.

My family is from Mississippi and of course I was exposed to these culinary delights at a very young age, imagine my horror when I asked my grandfather what was that strange stuff in his scrambled eggs and he replied "brains" oh hell no, I was having a George Romero moment before I reached puberty.........and this time my tongue is not in my cheek, my big ass mouth is closed ..........just saying ! lol.........

Read back on my post, J.F. 'NO PORK'! Most folk were raised on it, same in my parents house, but I was NEVER the one to partake in a troth of chitterlings and, [[say what?! ) PORK BRAINS?!
