    Motown Salutes The Jackson 5

Thinking about songs recorded by Michael Jackson and/or The Jackson 5 that were later covered by other Motown artists.

    Some examples:

"i Want You Back" - David Ruffin
"I'll Be There" - Four Tops
"Never Can Say Goodbye" - The Supremes
"Got To Be There" - Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
!I Wanna Be Where You Are" - Jose Feliciano

    What else?

Chaka Khan did an excellent version of the song too in the 80s.

I was just thinking, the "Jackson 5" did not have as many singles as some would think. They had roughly 25-27 singles from 1969-75 excluding Christmas songs.

Marvin Gaye's "I Wanna Be Where You Are" is a different song than what Michael Jackson/Jackson 5 recorded:

    Not too many, it looks.

And yeah Marvin's was VERY different. I wouldn't call it a cover.

Yes! Before mashups were popular, a local radio station created and played an excellent mix of Chaka and Michael’s versions of GTBT quite often...

It was probably the best of the J5 covers.

Loved it then. Still love it! That's why Troop is Unsung, a good example.

Here's the inverse of this thread. J5 covered Smokey and the Miracles, "Who's Lovin' You."

The J5 covered loadsa stuff from other Motown artists [[Smokey especially) - now that would be a lively thread. I wondered whether there might have been enough material for a Motown sings J5 album lol.

It’s included on the compilation THE MUSIC, THE MAGIC, THE MEMORIES OF MOTOWN: A TRIBUTE TO BERRY GORDY. It’s a lovely, mostly a cappella [IIRC] version. Tried to find a YouTube link for you, but so far have been unsuccessful.
