I remember Union Square for compilations of dodgy remakes by “the original artist”, but this looks really good, and it looks as though it’s been compiled by someone who knows their music, which isn’t always the case.

Union Square/BMG group have been releasing a large number of great value CDs in recent years, not a large number of soul, but many oldies/ pop. Check their website. Most UK supermarkets stock them when initially released.

Does anyone know if these are the original songs or re-recordings? And alanconnor, since Do It To The Music is not the 7" edit, is it just a different short edit of the song or is it a version that has been previously released?

Ordered. I hope Raw Silk is finally the proper 7 “ mix. Running time suggests so.

Quite a mish mash , almost random . Heavily weighted with Salsoul product . The most eye catching entry for me would be NATIVE NEW YORKER by Frankie Valli.

Also haven't heard this one is yeeeeaaarrs!

[[How did Maria Muldaur get on there)

As regards Maria Muldaur i assume the reason for it's inclusion was because of a 90's uptempo cover version by Brit Funk group The Brand New Heavies. Whatever the reason it is a great tune, but somewhat out of place here.

They’re originals, although I don’t know all the material to guarantee that of every song. Do It To The Music is an edit of the 12” which I think has been used before. The 7” had the aCapella from the dub mix on the front. That’s missing now, and just gets straight into the full song.

Does the 7" of "Do It to the Music" have unique elements not found on the dub mix or 12" mix?

Yes all are originals. Some are single edits, a few are 12”/longer. Great sound mastering too.

Thanks, alanh! I'm putting this on my list. I worry about some of these extremely budget releases. Good to hear that this one is mastered well and is worth getting.

I neglected to say in my post this collection is certainly well worth the price. If my car had a CD player I'd likely get it.

Noticed another one on there I'd almost forgotten:

oh and thanks bluebrock for your Maria Muldaur theory! Very out of place otherwise.
