    Diana Ross & Jennifer Hudson

Apparently they sang a Duet of Endless Love in Chicago tonight

People are looking for a video of it on YouTube

No! No duets album — unless she starts recording regularly! No remakes either!

Agreed. Not a fan of duets and/or remakes ever.

If Diana was ever to consider recording a new duets album i myself would prefer it to be with an R & B producer to include Soul/R & B artists. Admittedly the format has been done to death, but i would hate it to end up a Tony Bennett or Streisand type affair which sold in bucket loads but imo were awful.
Perhaps a whole album with just one male singer might prove better.....Any thoughts as to who might make a suitable candidate?........Answers on a postcard.

Agreed. We want original material with contempory writers and producers. Keep the old Ross vibe, but with a twist of the current trends. Not a sell out, but certainly a nod towards what is currently happening out there.

I am getting the feeling that it will not be a duet album but there will be a duet of one song on that album.

Honestly, my vote is for Smokey. It would have to be someone age appropriate because no one would take seriously Diana and say-God forbid- John Legend. On the right song Diana still has "it" and Smokey is one of the legends who hasn't lost any of what he had back in the day. The brotha can still bring the magic. I proposed this in another thread sometime ago. For me, because Diana Ross is tied with Aretha as my favorite female vocalist, and Marvin Gaye is my favorite male vocalist, the Diana and Marvin pairing is the ultimate. I love it just because it's Diana and Marvin. I would not complain if there were two or three Diana and Marvin albums, like the Supremes and Tops and Tempts. However, I do believe that there was a certain amount of magic missing from the duets. Whether that was a real lack of chemistry or because there was interference from the lives they were living [[being pregnant takes a toll in so many different ways), is anyone's guess. But I suspect that Diana and Smokey's natural soothing tones would have complimented each other beautifully and thus would have been a more ideal fit for the general public's tastes. The big drawback might have been the fact that it really would've been two high voiced singers which might have annoyed some and confused others. But today, because Diana's voice is nowhere near as high as it once was and has lost a ton more of her nasal register [[lol), I think it could be smooth sailing. Plus it's two legends with built in fan bases, producers would jump at the chance to be involved, the general public could even be persuaded to get into it. Could prove a high profile project for them both, if they were ever inclined to do it.

At the end of this clip , that's the audience in Chicago ?

    Sold! I'm in!
Too bad Marvin & Diana getting together in later years for an album wasn't meant to be.
When was she ever nasal?! lol

I’ve been away for a while helping my extended family [[s) deal with the flood. Everyone please consider flood insurance and waterproof every thing that might be in danger if it’s precious - I can’t tell you the heartache folks are experiencing, there are no words.

on a lighter note, it’s wonderful to come back after nearly two months and everyone seems happy here - is there a new understanding? Anyway, it’s nice to read on-topic discussions. After missing Mary in NYC [[she’ll be back in the fall) and reading so much about Ross’ shows, we nabbed some cheap-ish pit seats for Chicago and I gave to say, Diana Ross blew that place apart - at times, it was shaking. Seeing Jennifer so incredibly humbled was amazing, She kept looking at us, with her tearing eyes wide open, saying, “oh my God - DIANA ROSS!” The entire Show was extraordinary and, considering the crippling humidity, she performed like a 30 year-old except she doesn’t move about much.

Um........she looked a mess ...... what she wore, which I can’t adequately describe, was wrinkled, didn’t fit well and seemed, for want of a better word, to be unfinished or perhaps they change their mind halfway through making it what they were intending it to be. Plus, she was wearing bedroom slippers that she called sandals. I adore her voice, but unless someone is dressing her, she’s a mess and always has been. On her first tour which she did with Robin Thicke, I saw her show three times because I really love her voice but what she was wearing was so awful and ugly, that I have to pinch myself every time I saw it. However, with a voice like that, it doesn’t matter what she wears: all she hast to do is stand there and sing. No set, no lights, no costumes no nothing…… Just sing. Her voice fills a room like no other including The Queen, Whitney, Patti and Tina.

So was Jennifer getting ready backstage for her unannounced guest appearance and Diana beckoned her out on stage fifteen minutes ahead of as planned?? Catching Jennifer off guard,.... but when Diana calls , Jennifer says, " right away Miss Ross!"

Because it looks like Jennifer is preparing to wear a wig, and is not entirely made up and maybe she tossed that frock on backwards [[or upside down , inside out?) and nobody shows up to meet someone you admire this much wearing bedroom slippers.

More thought: I just watched that clip again and that is at the end of the show , so maybe Jennifer ran out her time to get ready and it was either go out like that .....or don't go out at all .

Diana does not seem that impressed by her, especially as she takes in those slippers, is playfully snarky about her being a no show at her party, their shared performance of ENDLESS LOVE is not flowing and is truncated , then Diana does offer Jennifer some solo time , which is awful and also gets truncated , but Jennifer does not seem ready to have it end while Diana does. She takes Jennifer by the hand, aims her stage left and personally escorts [[literally pulls) her off stage into the hands of stage help.
    Hilarious. lol!

that's the only way I can explain what I'm witnessing here.

Jennifer Hudson is a special young lady indeed and rather "Supreme" herself! Here she is at lunch with Mary Wilson. Oh look! She's even holding her own autographed copy of Mary's book, "Dreamgirl, My Life As A Supreme". It was so nice of her to remember Florence Ballard when she won her award too:

I think your spot on Boogie lol. I missed a lot of this first time around as i was so caught up in the moment.
I guess it's one thing to be granted an audience with the queen, but don't commit the cardinal sin of outstaying your welcome. To be fair to Diana, J.H was doing just that but appeared oblivious which in turn made it all the more hilarious.

Diana & Smokey.... Hmmm........Could work. I love Cupie doll.
Like you Ran, Diana & Marvin for me is the ultimate duet combination. I think their voices work perfectly together. It annoys me that this collaboration is so often compared unfavourably with Tammi and Marvin who were far more attacking in their style. Imagine if D & M had recorded another album together say around 78. It could have taken the place of the less then wonderful Ross.

I'd say no to a full duets album; maybe a cut or two but not with a heritage artist.

Yes Jennifer's still prancing around while Diana's doing her best to guide her over to where her parting gifts are waiting. lol!

Hudson acts more like a fourteen year old , a rather childsh one , imo than a woman approaching forty. Rather disconcerting behavior overall. She stated she was surprised to be beckoned onto the stage by Diana , how did she wind up in big puffy pink slippers ? Did she ever explain?

I love the Diana & Marvin album and I really don't understand the criticism that there is no chemistry between the two singers. There really is [[at least to my ears) on songs like "You Are Everything," "Love Twins," "My Mistake," and my ultimate favorite "Just Say, Just Say." If there is a problem with the album, it is the unevenness in the quality of the songs, which might be the result of the different producers used. Too bad that Ashford & Simpson left Motown around that time. A full Ashford & Simpson produced album might have been stronger [[and with more "chemistry")... "I've Come To Love You So Much" is a great track, just unfortunate that Marvin never finished his vocals.

Marvin and Tammi were an unbeatable combo. There was just something about their voices that seemed to click IMO in such a way no two duet partners did before or since. They didn't just sound like they were singing those songs, they sounded like they were living those songs...and singing about each other. I think the Diana and Marvin album may have happened at the wrong time, but I don't know if 78 would've been the time. Marvin may not have been up to it, with his divorce and all. But they do sound great together on "Keep My Light" from 1978 so you might have a point.

I'm not trying to hear Diana Ross sing love songs with a dude young enough to be her son or grandson. That's a hard pass for me.

I think there's a lack of magic between the two in a lot of the songs, and honestly I feel it more on Diana's end. Marvin seems to bring his A game to most or all of the cuts. IMO Diana doesn't always sound like she's up to it. Again, that could be because she was with child, or because she didn't want to do the album in the first place and was even less into it after she and Marvin's spat and was forced do it anyway. For me Diana comes across a bit listless on most of the cuts, which suggests to me that it may have had more to do with the pregnancy than anything else.

Good point though about the producers. The project being an A&S production probably would've resulted in a pure killer album. I suspect that we may have gotten an album similar to A&S's Gimme Something Real album, which would've been a real treat. Believe it or not though, the one A&S track on the duet album, "Just Say", is my least favorite song of the collection. Go figure.

Diana and Marvin is still one of my all time favorite albums though.
