    Our Motown Top 60

Hey everyone, keeping with Motown's 60th Anniversary I think it would be great if we post a favorite Motown recording here until we reach 60 of our favorites. If someone post one that you were thinking of posting, pick a different one [[God knows there are a lot to choose from).
I will start things off with this one:

    1).

Thank you very much. It was always a dramatic standout, whether since first noticing its dramatic name, up to the buildup and beyond of the objection of what should otherwise have been a sacred celebrated ceremony, with Gladys' belting of soul.

I wished they had done more in this style and cut out some of the "standards"

This has got to be the most pop-oriented "friendly" Edwin Starr, hahaha, yet this is my favorite of his Motown recordings.

Switching genres only just a slight after all, because one memory was when subjecting my brother, a hard rock / metal listener, a few of Rare Earth's numbers, his answer was that they were still soul. I guess they were not "hardcore" enough to be fully pegged as "rock", haha.

I guess it depends on how you define "successful". He also wrote the J5's "Lookin' Through the Windows", which charted 16 Pop, 5 RnB and 9 in the U.K.

It is also one of the best and most popular Motown hit for fans of my age group and perhaps younger. By the time this one hit, Motown had been producing hit records for nearly 10 years!

this song, when listened upon chance surfing the radio one evening, near-Christmas near twenty years ago, got my ears hooked into its beauty, and got me deciding to further absorb more of Motown in earnest from then on.

We're at 17), still lots to go, but Four Tops has still not been mentioned, actually surprising.

Four Tops, Always one of my consistent favorites, this is one of my personal favorites from their H-D-H peak years.

I haven't heard that once since the early seventies! Reaching #16 is impressive and reasonably successful !

Both WINDOWS and NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE were Hal Davis productions

It sounds very much like something Eddie Kendricks would have recorded in the 70s.
