David Ruffin Avenue dedication this afternoon 6/21/2019

It would be nice if we have any forum members living in the Detroit area who could attend and give us a full report on the street naming dedication that is to be held this afternoon in Detroit.

    This is absolutely great.

It's a beautiful thing when Motown legends get their due outside of the music industry! Aretha got the Pulitzer and the arena naming in Detroit. Sixty years and still going strong!!

She mentioned it in an interview earlier with Detroit's WJBK Fox 2. I posted the link in the sub forum.

Although the Detroit Free Press which had the original story about the dedication on Friday, their Saturday edition has nothing whatsoever about the event; however, I tripped upon this article totally by dumb luck. I think you will enjoy reading about it. Great article.

Interesting to see the photo of Ruffin's house. Where these folks lived always interests me. Have scouted the homes of Holllywood stars going way back , both on bus tours and with those "maps of the stars" being sold on the corners. lol. One home that I particularly drove by occasionally once i knew where it was , was the house of The Clampetts. hellooo Granny!!! lol!

And thank you Martha Reeves and Mary Wilson for attending this event, giving it that nod of authenticity .

There are also streets named after the Temptations, Supremes, Miracles, Originals, Four Tops, Contours, Aretha Franklin, and Martha Reeves in the Woodbridge Estates.

I have seen these streets in that sub division near downtown.

This was posted by David Ruffin Jr. yesterday.
June 21st , 2019 ... I traveled back home to Detroit for this weekend's full calendar of everything my Dad! [[#DavidRuffin) ... Excited much? #OutAndAboutWithDRJ in Detroit for the DRSR street renaming. McNichols is now named David Ruffin Avenue between Livernois and Woodward and on the corner of Parkside! The house I actually lived in the second block in. I really think its hella cool adding more music history to the world of Maps and GPS! - In this clip: is a short story about his day we fixed his Motorcycle there at home, started it up and took it for a spin! #GoodTimes / #GoodPeople.

P.S. - And to everyone that came from other cities, states, across seas and time zones, to share this fantastic and honorable event...I'd like to take that time now to acknowledge them here as well.

Pat Lewis... Accomplished backup singer for Isaac Hayes, who sang on his Hot Butterd Soul album, much of the later production done in Detroit by Don Davis... Pat toured with Hayes, as well as Aretha, and even George Clinton...
