There were clear differences regarding what we got to hear on radio and see on TV. That’s possibly why some tracks hit in the UK and not in the USA and vice-versa.

Also, there were differences between the UK and USA regarding which tracks were chosen for release as A-sides.

What I don’t know is what differences there would have been regarding which tracks were big if the same A-sides had always been released on both sides of the pond, and if radio and TV exposure had been comparable. That’s the crux of the question for me.

Such parity of exposure might even have had a noticeable cultural influence as we’re all influenced by what we get exposed to.
