OMG: Diana Ross is singing New York State of Mind [[1984)

Ross posted a 30 seconds snippet of her live performance of New York State of Mind. I knew she had sung the song, but never expected to hear a recording.

Love it, even though it's way too short.
Looking forward to the NYC Radio City Hall concert in June!

This is how she opened her Radio City Music Hall concert in NYC.

I'm a Streisand-Superman fan as well. Diana also sang NY State of Mind during her tour for The Boss; it was a show-stopper at the Westbury LI shows!

In the review of the 1984 concert in Radio City Hall, the New York Times' reviewer Stephen Holden writes:

"Miss Ross opened her set with a selection of songs [[''My Man,'' ''New York State of Mind,'' ''It's My Turn'') arranged cabaret-style for just voice and piano. Then, joined by 12 musicians and two backup singers, she continued with such old hits as ''Ain't No Mountain High Enough'' and ''Upside Down'' and the recent ''I'm Missing You,'' a new Lionel Richie ballad written in memory of of Marvin Gaye. The singer acknowledged her 50's doo-wop roots with a spirited ''Why Do Fools Fall in Love'' and commemorated her early Motown years with a three-song medley of Supremes hits. She performed ''Swept Away'' with a video of the song and ended her set with Bob Dylan's ''Forever Young,'' arranged as a saccharine gospel hymn."

Funny to read that the reviewer talks about the "high" ticket price [[$30)!

So excited that this was recorded [[and that Ross owns the recording). Would be nice too if some live recordings of the early 1980s would be released.

Superman is probably my favourite B.S album, so many great songs. I never realised that Diana had performed NYSOM. I wouldn't have thought the song would suit her voice but from the brief extract it sounds like she makes a really good job of it.

Thanks for posting this review Jaap, they are always interesting to read.
This celebratory year would be the perfect time to release a live recording such as this. You can keep all of those ultimate collections etc etc, the fans crave something new. I wonder what label it could be released on?
