Least Favorite Song from Stevie Wonder

Since Optimal Saint hasn't done one, here's mine.

So name the ONE song you can't stand from the Wonder Man.

    And...GO!

"You Are the Sunshine of My Life" and "Isn't She Lovely" are too MOR for me.

I expect this to end up the top vote getter

It definitely pales next to his greatest work and if someone else sang it I don’t know how many people would say “that sounds like a Stevie wonder song”

I always thought it had a schmaltzy lounge feel to it

All that to say I don’t hate it but I see why people don’t like it

They played it, the Commodores "Easy" and the Brothers Johnson's "Strawberry Letter 23" so darn much that I grew to hate them in 1977. I actually could not wait until 1978 so they would no longer play those songs on the radio around clock!LOL!

For some reason, I couldn't stand his version of Drown In My Own Tears. Motown was really trying to sell him as the little Ray Charles...

That's true. Early on they did try that, even releasing the album I have called "Tribute to Uncle Ray". I only to that old album once......

I might have to agree about Ebony and Ivory. Also I never cared for Fingertips but can cut him some slack since he was so young.

Probably "Nothing's Too Good for My Baby". Oh how I hate that song. I also hate "I Just Called to Say I Love You", but I can listen to that over "Nothing's Too Good".

Least fav album? Secret Life of Plants. I'm not grown enough to appreciate that one.

Probably any of the early instrumental jazz cuts. Not a fan of the Plants album either but I don't really count any of the tracks on there as "songs"

"I Just Called..." full stop. I was 13 when it was released; thought it was dreck then and now.

BOOGIE ON REGGAE WOMAN, what sounded innovative then , now sounds like noise to me. Is the "stoned" quality in his voice intentional? For some reason even the harmonica [[overused) hurts my ears. Good piano though.

I actually like "Power Flower" from that album.

I Just Called to Say I Love You is my least favorite Stevie song. It’s formula is just too simple for me. And the ending? Can’t stand it.

It had such a great singalong melody though

It was pretty awful. LOL! It was like Muzak you hear in your dentist's office.

I know what you're saying. There was a time in the 70s where the top records had the simpliest, most mundane lyrics. "Easy" by the Commodores comes to mind too.

Yeah that was pretty bad. I bet Stevie won't even admit to recording that. LOL!

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe they got the names on the label mixed up, lol.
