It should be noted the Grammys Motown tribute special is being taped two days later on the 12th. With her appearance at the Grammys, I think there's a good chance she'll be on the Grammys Motown tribute special.

That makes sense; maybe they can end up with Diana and Stevie and Smokey and Lionel on the special. That would be sweet. Here's hoping.

No. Just ... no. It wouldn't. Would just be another hot, back-stabbin' mess by MISS Mare-UH Wil-SUN SOOPA-STAH! Don't know if your comment is a joke or not. But ... no.

They're possibly counting all the Supremes number ones and then the solo songs' peaks on each Billboard chart.

Good trivia. I always thought that RATC was an original song and Bill Haley's version was the original. Did not know that another white artist did it first.

Perhaps the writer meant Shake Rattle & Roll, which was a cover of Joe Turner's R&B song.

I was around during this era, and never knew that some of the songs that I was enjoying were covers of R&B songs. It was only years later that I heard the original versions of SINCERLY, TWEEDLE DEE, GOODNIGHT SWEETHEART, TUTTI FRUTI and so many others

Yeah I believe so. But hey I'll forgive the writer for that simple mistake because otherwise he was right.

But yeah the original versions of these songs were overlooked for a long time. Unless you were Chuck Berry, Sam Cooke or Ray Charles, it was easy to profit from black songs. Motown and all of the star artists like Diana definitely broke a barrier.

How old is Raif now? 10?

I thought it was interesting that Rhonda created an Instagram account today for Raif. Perhaps they're thinking he will soon have a career in show biz? He definitely seems like he's made for the stage. I saw a video of him dancing on stage the other night with a friend of his, while Ms Ross was singing Upside Down. He's got the moves.

Shes almost 75 and a global legend and icon so she can do what she likes. Id be happy if Minnie Mouse introduces her as long as shes still performing thats all that should matter imo.

I thought Raif did a great job. But, why oh why does this 75-year-old woman in a long gown use so many stairs? And, if she insists on stairs, why didn't she have escorts already in place to help her up and down the steps?

She was strong vocally. I thought those two songs were appropriate. But, she did seem to get lost when singing Reach Out, and did not realize the song was over. Thus, the ending was a tad awkward.

I was not blown away by the performance. It was all planned out, but I question if she really rehearsed it. I give her 3 stars out of 5. I think she is used to performing in settings where people pay to see her, and she controls everything via a directive look at the band leader. This grammy performance is in contrast to the Ed Sullivan days where everything was rehearsed and executed perfectly, and there was no room for laziness.

It was nice to see Valerie, and Berry's loving and proud reactions.

She looked good. She still has the power to captivate a room. That’s something special she has that a lot of others don’t have. However did she not rehearse going up and down the stairs in that dress? She certainly had difficulty with it. Overall it was rather lackluster. I don’t know if it was the key, but she wasn’t in her best voice.

I thought she did great. It's still nice to see how she can captivate a room with just her voice and presence. No effects, no smoke bombs going off. Just her. I would hope she does some touring for her 75th because I can't wait to see her again.

I understand her singing “Best years” it was appropriate. If she would have sung “mountain”, it would have been too similar to her AMA performance. With today’s division and political climate, “reach out” was the perfect song. She is truly music royalty and she looked like it. That woman is gorgeous.

"Reach Out" definitely was the best song she could do for the exact reason khansperac mentioned. It is as appropriate in 2019 as it was in 1970 [[when race relations were arguably uglier at the time).

Diana performed concerts 2 nights in a row plus rehearsals this morning for the Grammys. I think she sounded just fine. At this point it’s not about notes, it’s about the life she brings to the lyrics. She was fantastic.

NOT TRUE. When one goes on stage, regardless of who they are, are expected to be the best they can be, and will be judged on that performance. No one gets a pass.

I just read a published list of best to worst performances of the Grammys. Dolly's was the best. Diana's was second to the worst. There were sooooo many little things wrong with Diana's performance that it all culminated in a forgettable 10 minutes that did little to enhance her legacy.

For me, it started with the dress. I hated that shade of red. I hated the style. I would have preferred a simple gown with a long train so she could see the damn stairs she had to climb.

I would have preferred she sing songs she never sang before such as Some Things You Never Get Used To and Surrender, which with a celebrity rocking band and celebrity chorus [[including Valerie) could have been a rocking much-talked about event. Her voice issues would have been hidden in this type of number. Maybe she could have ended with Remember Me. That would have been fun !!

I watched the performance with a friend. When Diana was finished, we both silently went back to our computers.

Well, there are all kinds of lists and opinions. After reading here that she was second to worst, I kind of disagreed. I will say that her AMA tribute performance was much better than this, but she did well, the audience loved her and she loved the audience.

The Music Bible, BILLBOARD, also made a list of worst to first. She ranked a bit higher and this was what they said of her and her performance:

    14. Diana Ross, "The Best Years of My Life" / "Reach Out and Touch [[Somebody's Hand)"

Never a bad time to celebrate the great Diana Ross, and it's understandable if the Grammys saw the ceremonies near enough to her 75th birthday as an opportunity they couldn't pass up. But while Ross' performance was strong, it didn't feel like it really captured her greatness or introduced any new side of it, and her lifetime achievement medley at the 2017 American Music Awards -- a short 15 months ago -- towers over this two-song medley a little.

It is nice to see Diana still performing and getting awards and tributes while she is still with us. And she looks amazing, trim and healthy. So she will be with us a long time. To quote Diana, "It took me a lifetime to get here, I'm not going anywhere," ...
