She truly was a very talented singer with a great voice. Was she profiled in that film along with Darlene Love and others? I always thought she had been a member of the Ikettes but her Wiki entry doesn't mention that.

Don't you wonder sometimes how many records you've heard singers like Clydie sing on, when you had no idea who was singing backup?

Clydie wasn't in 20 FEET FROM STARDOM, although she more than qualified. She wasn't an Ikette, but she was a Raelette at one point.

Clydie also sang with [[and I believe romanced) Bob Dylan. A great singer. Dusty Groove has a solo album or two available on cd.

I have yet to explore her solo career but I love her stuff with Motown's Blackberries.

    Rest in peace Clydie.

    Thanks @reese.

Have we ever gotten any inklings as to how much of the Blackberries there is in the Motown vaults?

Without taking the time to look it up, didn't she do some background vocals on Martha's first solo album

I just checked Clydie King's page on Wikipedia and it states that among the many songs she sang backup on was The Supremes' "Nathan Jones".

That's a nice appearance; thanks for posting this. Is there any chance this was broadcast in the USA? Martha's styling is familiar and I wonder if I saw the performance at an original showing.

If I'm not mistaken, this is from Don Krishner's Rock Concert. So I'm sure it was broadcast in the States.

She confirmed this in a fairly recent interview, maybe GOLDMINE or A TOUCH OF CLASSIC SOUL. I don't remember which, but I remember her saying it. She even mentioned that people heard the recording and told her they could hear her voice on it.

Yes, the Blackberries were on several of the Supremes recordings including Someday We'll Be Together. The interview with Clydie was in "In The Basement."

Marv — I have been searching several news sites and have not found anything. The Wikipedia page for Clydie doesn’t show her as having passed away. We have seen here before that obituaries sometimes take time to be reported/published. I would think Rolling Stone would have something.

I would love a list of songs the blackberries sang backup for while at Motown. As far as Someday, everyone and their mama has claimed they sang in it, except for Mary And Cindy.

This is one of my favorites from her. Recorded at the famous Gold Star Studios. Not sure who the background singers...I wonder if it’s the Blossoms or Patrice Holloway, Sherlie Matthews. It’s a beautiful song and should have charted.
