Longest and shortest time to get #1 Billboard Pop hit

I was just wondering what Motown group and what solo artist took the longest amount of time to reach #1 on Billboard pop charts, and which did the same in the shortest amount of time?

I'm thinking Smokey Robinson and the Miracles took the longest time [[1958 to 1970) and either the Jackson 5 or the Marvelettes took the shortest time for the groups. For the solo it would be Stevie Wonder.

Am I missing someone? I'm not too well versed on the mid 70s and beyond artists.

I think you are correct with your facts.

I think the shortest time for groups goes to the Jackson 5, beating the Marvelettes by a month or two.

Not sure, but maybe the longest time for a solo might be Marvin Gaye, around seven years.

I think it took the longest time to reach #1 up until that point.

I'm assuming you mean from the time they signed at Motown until they reached #1.

J5 signed with Motown in March of 69 and hit #1 in Jauary of 70. The Marvelettes were signed in the spring [[I think) of 61 and hit #1 that summer in August. So I'd say the Marvelettes for shortest.
