What Is The Best Year For Music To You

For me, it is 1968. I was in high school, had a girlfriend and an after-school job so I could buy me some 45RPM records, albums and cassette tape and stereo cassette players. Besides Motown, I discovered how much I liked The Intruders, Archie Bell & The Drells and other artist. I think 1968 was a happening year for many reasons. That particular was a focal point for all kinds of music, progress, social upheavals, fads and protest. All of which came out in the music. I've notice that on Decades channel with Bill Kurtis also. That show seems to focus on 1968 much more than any other year. 1968 for me stands out more than any other when it comes to music. What is your favorite year?

1969. So much going on globally in politics and elsewhere and, like you said, the music reflected what was going on all around us. Also, there were many different musical styles that existed.

1978 from beginning to end. So many now classics were released that year I was at the record store almost weekly.

1962-1976. Motowns best was between 1962-1967. I love the early dance records of 1962, Chubby Checker, Orlons, Dee Dee Sharp & Gary US Bonds.

Definitely 1966. Motown hit its absolute peak that year. I don't have TIME here this evening to list all the great hits from that year!

For Motown it had to be 1966. Everything was firing on all cylinders and the hits were falling out of the studio left and right.

For me, there wasn't one single year that I thought was "it" for music. I like too many different types of music that don't overlap, for instance Pavarotti, Goodman, Ella, Motown, Annie, Anita, and late 80s/early 90s hip-hop. How do you compare 1986's "Sweet Love" to 1958's "Sweet and Lovely"? You don't. They stand on their own.

I have soooooo many great memories from that time period and with at least a dozen songs that come to mind, I could either tell you where I was when I first heard them or where they constantly played them.

Girl Groups in general: Late 1962-1969

    Specifically:

    Phil Spector/Philles: 1962-1965

    Motown: 1964-1969

Musically speaking, it was an exciting time to be alive. Nobody's productions were as innovative and as thrilling as Philles and Motown. Those records jumped out at you like no others -- both sonically and musically. I feel most fortunate to have grown up with it from the start.

Guys your all wrong it is 1967 you had everything going that year, what a great year and I would absolutely put 1966 right next to it, followed by 1969 and then 1964, Early 19070 -1971 had some great soul music.
