Is "My Favorite Things" becoming a Christmas "staple" because of the Supremes album?

Think about it. The Sound of Music film adaptation came out in 1965, in April, during Spring-- and maybe Easter. But then with Berry wanting to put out an album to cash on the single "Children's Christmas Song". So they selected a bunch of Christmas songs for Diana [[and to some extent- Flo, though she wouldn't shine until the expanded editions) to sing lead on with Andantes a bunch of Christmas staples in *gasp* the West Coast [[I believe).

Long story short it seemed someone thought it would be a good idea that with the popularity of the Sound of Music play and movie getting Oscar buzz, why not have a song that talks about Christmas decorations. And thus, this was on the album.

Now this is just a theory. There could have been dozens of albums with the song around that time, but 1965 is beyond coincidental.

If not, whose idea was it to put it as a Christmas staple. Aside from the recent computer-animated Grinch movie that came out recently, I believe radio stations have realized it is NOT a Christmas song, after that recent live stage broadcast on I believe NBC or Fox. And even if it's still being played, it's not in my area.

I have heard it every Christmas here in LA in malls, stores, supermarkets along with Silver Bells & White Christmas. I'm hoping to hear songs from Wonderful Christmas Time now that the album has been released in the US.

Interesting question, I always wondered the same thing. So I just did a little search.

I looked up the song in Joel Whitburn's Billboard Book "Christmas In The Charts 1920-2004" [[which is being reprinted this year by Record Research, btw).

    https://www.recordresearch.com/chris..._1920_2004.php

It shows a version by Jack Jones from 1964.

I looked at youtube and saw that the song was on The Jack Jones Christmas Album from 1964.

Here is the info from discogs:

There was also a version from Andy Williams on his 1965 Christmas album [[same year as The Supremes):

I think the only single release of the song was by Herb Alpert in 1969 as a B-side.

Of course the song is from the 1959 Broadway Soundtrack The Sound Of Music featuring Mary Martin.

    Good stuff.

I hadn't realized Whitburn had done a Christmas song book. I will have to watch for that .
Someone clever could easily adjust the lyrics to MY FAVORITE THINGS so that it references all things winter/ Christmas and that would firmly associate it as a Xmas perennial.

I think so. It's kind of like how "Put A Little Love In Your Heart" by Al Green and Annie Lennox from the 1988 film "Scrooged" has become a Christmas staple....at least at my house.
