Valerie was on THE VIEW today and sang AINT NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH as a birthday gift to Whoopi Goldberg. Paul Schaefer was also there.

Great performance. I always forget how good a voice Valerie has. What a lady.

Thanks, Milven. And you're right, Tom -- Valerie is among the best ever!

Yes - an underrated talent. I have wonderful memories of A&S concerts in NYC in the 70s and 80s.

Wonderful - would have loved to to do the Marvin and Tammi version though

With Valerie's skills I wonder if she would be able to "work up" a version of ANMHE that starts with the slow version and then moves to the fast version, a la Love Hangover. I reckon such a combination would be brilliant

Great voice that has held up over time. Her version is razor thin behind the Marvin and Tammi version.

Valerie was one of the very top session singers in New York at the same time she was working as a songwriter and producer for Motown. I once quipped that what she did for us in Detroit was her hobby. We've all heard her singing a great deal more than we realized. Her piano playing is also to die for.

I was hugely impressed back in 1971 [[and am still impressed) by this track from Val's debut Motown album. She starts out a cappella and eventually adds her piano and that's it.
