Photo of Diana Ross singing Reach Out and Touch 1974

Love this picture by Bruce W. Talamon of Diana Ross singing "Reach Out and Touch" at the LA Universal Amphitheater in 1974 [[same night when she sung "Superstition"). It's from a new photo book.

Wish we could get an extended compilation of the early 1970s live performance by Ross. At the Grove, Caesar's Palace, Royal Albert Hall--there so many songs she performed live that have not [[officially) be released. I love her Aretha Franklin-inspired "Somewhere" at Royal Albert Hall, much more better than the Supremes version. A "let's see if Diana Ross can do it on her own" would be a great album!

Great picture! The Grove album is amazing. I listen to it over and over again!

I never heard it, with the exception of the songs that are/were on YouTube. They really should release it and I think there would even be a larger market for it, similar to what happened when Universal released BLUE. Something like "the lost live album" -- and the whole Let's See Diana Ross Can Do It On Her Own" also works well marketing wise. Thus, if there would be a next expanded release, that would be my favorite!

Great pic! That looks like the exact gown she wore at her first London solo show a year before too!

I really don't understand why Universal is not releasing this!

I agree I love the Grove concert. I listen to it all the time. But I really wish we would get a live cd or DVD of Diana in concert from the mid to early eighties. That would be so awesome.

There's an unreleased concert that should be release on DVD. It's the 1982 concert in Brussels!

I would like to see the full unedited concert she did at the forum in the early 80s. The one that was used for her TV special with Michael Jackson.

That's the one where Marvin joined her onstage.

I'm not hearing the Queen Ree inspiration in the song, but I definitely agree that Diana's version is head and shoulders better than any of the versions by the Supremes. She sounded great. That Royal Albert Hall show was really fantastic.

When a friend sent me a vhs of Diana's Royal Albert Hall concert, along with a set list, I was surprised to see SOMEWHERE on it. My first thought was "She was still singing this in 1973?" I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Diana's performance was not her 60s version, but one that was definitely inspired by Aretha's version on her HEY NOW HEY album.

Maybe this is what Jaap was talking about?

Definitely inspired by Ree Ree's version.

A very impressive performance. This was in 1973, early into her solo career and not yet the superstar diva she was by the time of Evening With Diana Ross. [[Or she was already well on her way - with Lady Sings the Blues and Touch Me In the Morning). The first time I saw her solo was in 1974 at the Universal Amphitheatre.
Are there other clips from that Royal Albert Hall concert?

Oh yeah, Aretha's version. That makes sense. Never cared for the Queen's version. Diana's may actually be my favorite version of the song period.

The whole show is probably on Youtube. I downloaded it from there a couple years ago.

Yeah, the uploader posted all the songs virtually from the concert. There's a great version of Ain't No Mountain High Enough from the show.
