    Films That Featured Motown Recordings.....

As we all know, Motown and it's music has become an intricate part of pop culture which includes the soundtracks of a variety of films. Can you name films that contained Motown songs? If so, list then name of the film, the artist and the song. For example:

BlacKkKlansman - The Temptations - "Ball of Confusion.

The Big Chill movies of course. And didn't Motown do its own soundtrack back in the 60s? "Nothing But a Man" or something like that? I think I might still have it on vinyl.

Yes, I remember Motown releasing the soundtrack to "Nothing But A Man" in '64 or '65.

Will Smith's "Hitch" contains Martha Reeves & The Vandellas' "It's Easy To Fall In Love [[With A Guy Like You)".

40 years ago this summer. How well do I remember. In fairness, it could not compete at all with the "Grease" soundtrack that was out about the same time. But let's see, we had:

    - Commodores -Too Hot Ta Trot
    - Diana Ross -Lovin', Livin' and Givin'
    - Thelma Houston - Love Masterpiece

Thanks for listing those Marv.I see I didn't quite follow the threads guidelines correctly!
As far as TOO HOT TO TROT, I'll never understand why the Commodorers wasted their appearance in this movie performing a song that was already a year old and had already come and gone instead of working something new. I think it's the movies only "oldie".
But that's for another thread for another day.

    “Fingertips” - Stevie
    “I Can’t Help Myself” - Tops
“Stop! In the Name of Love” - Sups
“Dancing in the Streets” - Martha & The Vs
    “Beechwood 4-5789” - Marvelettes
    “Ooo Baby Baby” - Miracles
“[[You Can) Depend on Me” - Miracles
    “Cleo’s Mood” - Jr. Walker
    “Money” - Barrett Strong
“You Beat Me to the Punch” - Mary Wells
    “My Girl” - Temptations
    “[[I’m a) Road Runner” - Jr. Walker
    “Mickey’s Monkey” - Miracles
“Reach Out, I’ll Be There” - Tops

as well as contemporary [[for the time of the film’s release) tracks by Luther Allison, Freddie Perren and G.C. Cameron.

You're welcome Boogie. Yeah, I can remember partying to "Too Hot to Trot" back in Fall 1977. I guess Motown was just resistant to recording Disco even for a feature film.

Oh you beat me too it!LOL! I think "Cooley High" was the first film that came to mind when I was thinking about this thread. It probably made the best use of the music for each scene.

I loved that movie so much. I went to see it the week it came out in 1975, then again that Fall. I bought a VHS copy of it back in the 80s and even taped it off of television but it had edited out the profanity. LOL!

    THE WOMAN IN RED
    Stevie Wonder
I JUST CALLED TO SAY I LOVE YOU

Wiki says this, of all of his, was Stevie's biggest selling single
    - and that it was his only #1 in the U.K.
    - and it is Motowns biggest selling single there of all of their releases.

Of the top of my head:

'The Happening' in the film of the same name.
'Ain't No Mountain High Enough', Marvin and Tammi version was featured heavily in 'Stepmom'.
    'Heatwave' is used in 'Carrie'.
'Shotgun' is the opening track in 'Misery'

YES! The soundtrack album was the very first album I bought in the 80s, but for some reason they did not include it on the album.

Hi Marv, just checked, it's about 29mins into the movie when John Travolta is driving his girlfriend through the town, 'Heatwave' is playing on the car radio.

I was thinking the same thing, Paul. For a movie company to use a previously-unreleased Motown track which had only recently been unleashed on "Cellarful...", they must have really loved it. Imagine what a hit it might have been had it been released and gotten some radio airplay. Personally speaking, of all the unreleased tracks that Motown has released from the vaults over the years -- and there have been tons of super-high quality -- Martha's "It's Easy To Fall In Love" is my favorite. I can never play it just once without repeating it at least 5-10 times in a row!

"Stoned Love" was played in the film Forest Gump. Remember the Times Square New Year's Eve scene? It was played in the bar where they were celebrating.

This was the first film I thought of. "Baby Love" playing over the title credits set the tone for me. And the inclusion of Cameron's "It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday" near the end was absolutely perfect. This movie is so underrated, IMO.

That was probably the best use of a song in a movie scene ever! Then the way it fades into the Four Tops "Reach Out I'll Be There" was just perfect as Preach ran from the cemetery and down the road.
