After my more or less instant success with my My Last Chance thread thanks to Dan I am now itching to buy the mix of of You Keep Me Hanging On with the louder backing vocals.

To save me a search can anybody please advise which CD this can be found on please so that I can locate it on Amazon for an MP3 download

That must be the version that has been played for years on a station out of Norwalk, CT [[96.7 FM) where Florence Ballard just takes the song at the end.

That makes sense David.

Motown finally figured out that the fans loved that version of the song. I know that several of us told Harry and Motown that. So the version cropped up here and there.

Is it on the last Anthology as well? I can't remember.

Eamonn...why don't you just play the song and when the backing vocals come though, you just twiddle the volume control.

If you want to save some money, and can find it used, Rhino's "Billboard's Top R&B Hits: 1966" has that mix on it. Sounds excellent. too!

Miss Lish craves to review the Symphony version where Flo take's off at the end. Has it been determined which CD has this version? Being a completest, there can't be a version out there that Miss Lish does not have. Please, please someone comfort me and tell me there is not yet another version I must scour the earth to find..

But I don't have a clear answer to your question about the ending that sounds symphonic. Someone here will though.

But you need the Motown Story, Playlist version........and I do think it's on the last anthology too.

After listening non stop to every possible version on Symphony that could have been released, Miss Lish, sadly, is still unable to confidently confide that she has indeed heard the version that so many are enamored of; however, with all of the searching and listening she has contracted a case of the dreaded Compilation headache, and has strongly considered scouring the planet for yet another Motown Story out put, but not tonight.

I have listen to a few versions of this song - some are just mastered louder than others - so what is all the debate and wonder about - I do like the background vocals on anything louder - because after all they are meant to be part of the over all experience and song.

Actually the version on The Motown Story, which is the same mix on the CD Billboard Top R&B hits 1966, is not the exact same mix that's on The Supremes Playlist Plus 3CD set. The stereo panning in the intro is different on these two mixes. On the Motown Stroy/Billboard Top Hits mix, the first phrase of the guitar and organ [[each phrase consisting of one measure) is panned to the right, the second phrase is panned to the left, the third phrase is panned not completely, but slightly to the right, and the fourth phrase is panned to the left where it remains throughout the rest of the song. On the Playlist Plus mix, the stereo panning in the intro is identical to that of the stereo album mix whereas the first phrase is panned to the left, the second phrase is panned to the right, the third phrase is panned to the left, and a portion, less than half of the fourth phrase is panned to the right, as the beginning of the phrase is on the left, then quickly panned to the right, then panned back to the left on the "and" of beat two of the measure. Also, the Playlist Plus mix overall has more low end than the Motown Story/Billboard mix. Other than that, everything else, the tamborine and the percussion on the bridges being panned to the left, the drums being panned to the right, and the editing, or should I say unediting and louder level of the background vocals is similar between the two mixes.
