What is your Motown Breakup Song?

Mine is Send me No Flowers. I get chills from that song: Diana's voice is haunting, and I would say the lyrics may well be HDH's best for the Supremes, and definitly my favourite. I like to make up my own verses around the theme as I love flowers and people like the person described in the song by the singer are a huge pet peeve of mine. Only today the song would be Send me No Whatsapp Messages, or at least based on my own experiences with emotionally constipated men.

For a while, when someone I was in love with completely broke my heart, If I were Your Woman was my song. Made me cry but feel better too.

I would add Brenda Holloway's Every Little Bit Hurts"... Brenda's vocal and the way she is in absolute control of the song is amazing... and chilling indeed

"And I thought you loved me,
when I saw that loving feeling in your eyes.
And I thought you loved me,
but you were only kissing me goodbye."

And I Thought You Loved Me - The Supremes. [Also a great version by Marbaya.]

"Forever Came Today" sent it to a girl I was dating on Valentines Day, as work got more busy working on the radio I decided to sell all my disco equipment and went with a mate for three weeks in the USA, visiting yes Detroit & Philly, she was not Happy and we broke up. When she got married she asked me if I would do a spot for her on the disco she had booked as we remained friends then, you can guess what single I managed to fit in LOL! Never met anyone else?

Oh wow the memories behind the Black Majic album

"In and Out of My Life," Martha Reeves and the Vandellas -
In Fact that is what I call my break up album and I will always say Martha was killing it.

    "Tear It Down"
    "No One There"
"I hope I don't get My Heart Broke"
"I Have Given You the Best Years of My Life"

All were good for wine and cursing.

Another: Just Another Lonely Night - Temptations. The way Paul sings it you'd think he was speaking from real experience. A tearjerker as far as I am concerned.

The Contours - "It's So Hard Being A Loser"
Diana Ross - "All The Befores"

OMG, that song is soooooo heartbreaking and beautiful.

So much depth Diana gave that song. Valerie and Nick could write the you-know-what out of songs, I swear.
