Fantasia will have to tone down the nasalism in her voice and suppress her tendency to go "yeah yeah yeah" if she's going to sing like Mahalia. Such as her classic performance of Trouble of the World in Imitiation of Life:

Reportedly, Fantasia agreed to gain weight to play Mahalia Jackson. It will have to be some performance since Mahalia was an original. I was told Mahalia could out cuss the saltiest sailor when she had to. Fantasia won't have a prolem with that part.

Smark21, we know she's got the pipes, but yes she will have to tone down some things in her style. When I first saw the topic of this thread, I though, "Oh, no..." But if Fantasia is a professional singer/actress, with preparation she can do it.

I love Fantasia but I dont see her playing Mahalia but I could be wrong. Does anyone remember the play "Sing Mahalia Sing" that starred Jennifer Holliday as Mahalia back in the 80's. Now, she knocked my socks off
