The Precisions "If This Is Love"

Can anyone tell me anything about The Precisions, a mid 60's Detroit based vocal group? I don't remember them, and their one major hit was in 1966, so I'd think I'd have heard of the Motown-ish stomper.

    Thanks in advance.

The group from Detroit started singing together in 1964. The members were Arthur Ashford, Michael Morgan, Billy Prince, Denis Gilmore, and Robert Lowe. They recorded first for Mike Hanks' D-Town Records in late 1964 and 1965, then Drew Records from 1966-67, and finally, ATCO Records, from 1968-69. The following is my favourite cut by them:

Doug, all these years I thought you were raised in The Detroit Metro Area. Both "If This Is Love" and "Such Misery" were big hits in Detroit. They were both hits in Chicago, too. But they played them most on the Soul stations [[WVON). I think they were played a little on the Pop stations. But, I'm not sure, as I never listened to These stations.

Feel free to ask specific questions about this group, and their history.

Grew up in Ferndale....suburban Detroit.....Michigan so yes, I'm a netro Detroit kid [[or was). I don't know how I missed them. "If This Is Love" got pop play in 1967, making it into the mid 50's on the Billboard chart. A look at the Keener 13 charts show it as high as Number 9 for the week of 9/11/1967.

It got played a lot in the Cleveland area as well. I used to see copies left and right, and though I liked the record a lot, I'd pass 'em up. That was until the record started to grow in momentum in the UK and I saw a lot less copies. I did eventually buy one and play it out when I do my occasional DJ gigs.

    Best,

    Mark
