^ Wow, Kiki did a version? What cover did she NOT do while at Motown.

Syreeta's version as Rita Wright was the one I heard first, and it's another case of liking the version I heard first the best.

Syreeta's OK, I wasn't too impressed with her version. I'm usually a fan of the song if they're INTO it. But Syreeta didn't seem into it. Just my two cents.

I can only stand Ross’ as I hate the melody of the verse. No one could get a hit off that mess.

My favorite is the non-Motown version by Dusty Springfield. She sung the track much more emotional and I love the arrangement.

Diana recorded a version of "I Can't Give Back The Love I Feel For You" on July 31, 1968 also with Ashford and Simpson. It was considered as a follow up to the Supremes then current single "Somethings You Never Get Used To". Instead it was shelved, and in 1969 Kiki Dee's vocals were added to the same track and released in 1970. Diana's 1968 version was released in 2008 on "Supreme Rarities: Lost And Found", the source for this information.

Dusty Springfield's vocal is my favourite.

Vikki Carr was the first singer to record this, right?

I thought Syreeta did it first. Would love to hear Vicki's version

Vicki’s version came out in 1971. And of course syreeta’s version was out in 1968

Is there a chance that M and C are on the background of the July 31 1968 recording? I thought there were a couple of DRATS recordings used as Ross solos. Thanks in advance.

I think the track was incomplete. No background vocals

In 1968 former lead singer of The Orlons, Rosetta Hightower, released a very good version of "I Can't Give Back The Love I Feel For You" as the a-side of her second solo single. It was released on Toast, a UK label.

Here's Stephanie Mills' version that she recorded in the '80s [[A&S actually co-produced the album she recorded her version on titled Tantalizingly Hot including the top 40 R&B mid-tempo Keep Away Girls):

    HOW MANY folks covered this?!

I really do. I think it’s the most hackneyed, forced melody I have ever heard. Seriously. It tries too hard and nets zero points by the end.
