Podcast: Leo Sacks, producer of "Take a Look: Aretha Franklin Complete on Columbia"

Piggybacking on PeaceNHarmony's post of "Aretha At 75 - A BBC World Service Documentary," here's an interview from 2011 with producer Leo Sacks. He talks about the making of "Take a Look: Aretha Franklin Complete on Columbia" and gives some insight into Aretha's years at the label. He also points out that although Aretha was only 18 when her first Columbia sessions commenced in 1960- the resulting album was released in 1961- she was poised, confident, knew what she wanted and was very much in charge. Sacks says that Aretha was "blown away" by the box-set.

Wonderful! Thanks for finding. I was low on $ when the TAL set came out and it now goes for $200 or so. The Columbia material is staggering; not on a par with Atlantic material, but as you say this voice and this poise and this musicality from an 18 year old. Just ... WOW! Thanks again
