Sounds worthy of checking out. I wonder why certain tracks appear to be duplicated? Does that mean pts 1 and 2 of those songs? Hopefully these will in most case be the full length versions. If so then count me in!

Aren't the full length versions more readily available than the single versions, in many cases? I'm of the opinion that a Singles collection should contain just that - otherwise just call it a "Best of". I belive the LP versions are available on the 3CD "Just For You" box set, outside of the original standalone albums.

I believe unique mixes were done for Barry White's first Greatest Hits collection and some of those regularly show up on CDs in place of the true hit mixes, some of which are different edits as well as different mixes. I hope they've gone to the trouble of sourcing the hit mixes for this set.

A lot of the earlier BW 45's had a vocal A-side and an instrumental B-side so that is probably why a lot of songtitles are duplicated.
The Amazon USA price is surely a mistake: I ordered the 3-cd set from Amazon FR for 17,99 Euros.

Thank you for alerting me to the "just for you" box set smallworld. It have just ordered it.
As regards the alternate mixes used for previous releases i am in total agreement with you when you say we need the original hit mixes for this collection. I have been disappointed in the past by the versions presented on these previous releases.
Thank you again for your help and i hope 2018 is very kind to you.

jack020, there is also a single CD version titled 'Love’s Theme: The Best Of The 20th Century Records Singles' due to be released. The information is here:

    http://www.musictap.com/2018/01/03/barry-white-gets-3cd-box-the-complete-20th-century-records-singles-1973-1979/

Although the ASIN: B0788XWJXY brings up 'The Complete 20th Century Records Singles [[1973-1979)' 3CD set on Amazon.fr at 17,99 Euros, the same ASIN at Amazon.co.uk confusingly brings up 'Love's Theme: The Best of the 20th Century Records' and purports to be the box set despite being the title of the single CD. Amazon's listings are becoming increasingly unreliable and inaccurate, so perhaps it may be worth re-checking in case the listing is incorrect. That said, I'd jump at the chance of getting the 3CD set for 17,99! I can't get enough of Barry White/Love Unlimited Orchestra with Gene Page arranging and Ed Greene on drums!

This looks like a great collection and it would be good to get some of these original single mixes on CD.

Having a lot of the original singles, I can confirm that those duplicate titles are indeed the instrumental versions. As you'll also notice, some of the B-side titles are variations on the A-side titles. These are also instrumental versions.

Two tracks that stick in my mind are "You're The First, The Last, My Everything" wherein the remix without the spoken intro, with a different vocal track and with additional backing vocals from Love Unlimited is what normally turns up on CD. This annoys the hell out of me.

The other track is "You See The Trouble With Me", which was a smash hit in the UK, and wherein the single has a far superior mix [[IMHO) with added piano and an extra spliced chorus before the fade.

And also Can't get enough of your love babe with the added bongos on the final choruses on the 7" single

And without Barry White singing behind himself in the spoken intro.

Anyone know if there's a similar ‘Complete Albums’ compilation for Barry White? I’d be interested in getting that for sure

That will never be I guess because his albums in the US were on 4 seperate record labels: 20th Century, Unlimited Gold [[Sony?), A&M, Private Music.

Ah yes that is true jack. I suppose there could be a ‘Complete 20th Century Albums’ compilation but beyond that it’s probably unlikely as you say

Is it fair to say that Barry White had a golden period like Stevie Wonder and that this was while he was signed to 20th Century, or is that an over-simplification?

The Icon is Love on A&M from 1994 was his biggest seller in the US / Double Platinum according to the RIAA.

His first 5 albums were packaged together as part of the "5 classic Albums" series so that could be a good start i guess

This set was only released in 2014 and simply impossible to find new, why do companies not see this, so many good sets were released in this series and all at a good price, why not get them out again.

I know jaybs, I think I was lucky to find a used copy at a relatively cheap price... about £15 I think. The others on Amazon marketplace are currently priced at $90!

In fact jaybs this set was so hard to find I didn’t even know it existed until alex told me!!!!!

I remember it coming out with a few others at the time, but then I thought I have the box set, and just forgot all about it, now I know how good it is to have the albums themselves, one day I may just see it! lol

I don't think there was ever an official price on Amazon UK, just a marketsellers price. What I've tend to notice is, that nearer the time of release date the prices do drop. This was definitely the case with the purple rain deluxe edition.

Anyhow I found a more descriptive track listing, although its still not clear about the last 5 tracks on cd3

    Cd1

    Lol, hopefully jaybs!

I've just had a proper look and there are at least two different labels that do these five-album boxsets... one of them are called ‘5 Classic Albums’, the other ‘Original Album Series’...!

    5 Classic Albums: https://www.discogs.com/label/104198...assic-Albums-3

    Original Album Series: https://www.discogs.com/label/276896...l-Album-Series

[[this here may have just been for my own personal understanding )

    From The Second Disc:
These sets will infuse new life into Barry White’s hit-filled catalogue, thanks to the team of producer Bill Levenson, mastering engineer Kevin Reeves and master tape researcher Andy Skurow [[whose impeccable work has aided several Second Disc Records releases), who painstakingly tracked down original tapes and recreated original single edits where necessary. Richard Havers contributes liner notes to the deluxe set, while detailed discographical information is included in both packages.

I was kind of following the contents of this set on another forum, but am still not totally certain about every track being the correct single version. Can anyone verify that these tracks are the actual U.S. 45 RPM versions?

Do you think there are different versions of the 45s?

I've been posting some of his songs on my music blog on Tumblr [[using Spotify of course because DMCA issues) and I was gonna post Never, Never Gonna Give Ya Up but Tumblr's post limit stopped me from posting lol

He has such a great catalog. Yet I feel he's soooo underrated. Especially since he's been dead almost 14 years.
