Does anyone know when his relationship with Motown started? I saw something online that said 1967 but I was under the impression that he was working with the label earlier than that.

In Barney Ales and Adam White's Motown: The Sound of Young America it is stated that it began in 1967.

In Motown, the Golden Years, by Bill Dahl [[2001) it is stated that Weldon remained at Motown until the mid-1970's.

He was a singer/songwriter and producer, but specifically for Motown he was a promotions guy.

I will elaborate a little more than I did in my earlier post. Sorry I did not do this. In Barney Ales and Adam White's MOTOWN: The Sound of Young America, it is stated, "There were seasoned black promotion men in the 1960s record industry but they were not legion. Jack Gibson crossed from radio into promotion working at Motown, Decca, and Stax. In Philadelphia, Weldon McDouglas pitched Motown's wares for its local distributor, Chips, then joined the mothership in 1967 in regional promotion."

I was a little disappointed in the Motown Encyclopedia that Weldon did not have a segment on his contribution to the Motown legacy. Perhaps in the "second edition" he might be included.
