Just horrible to think that this is the end of Natalie's line. I know her twin sisters are alive, but Natalie's legacy specifically is what I'm referring to. My heart goes out to the family. Rest in peace.

Heartbreaking for us on earth but real comforting to know they are all together as a family in Gods Heavenlly mansion.

Wasn't Marvin Yancey the same age when he had his fatal heart attack? Sad case of history repeating itself.

Marvin was even younger...34. Shades of Whitney and Bobbi Kris abound as well.

Thinking people usually call it just coincidental but sometimes sadness
seems to follow some families around...

Sad news indeed. Rest in peace Robert. One correction to NY Daily News article. Marvin Yancey was not a member of the group, The Independents. His writing partner, Charles "Chuck" Jackson was a member and also the younger brother of Rev. Jesse Jackson.

Maybe I'm getting a bit senile after 60 but Marv, I remember Marvin
being IN the group too as well as being their main songwriter...

Splanky, you are not senile, but he was not in the group [[at least not performing). I saw them in concert when they were hitting with "Leaving Me" in roughly March 1973. It was Chuck, Helen and Maurice. They had a 4th member, but it was not Marvin Yancey. Let me check something.

Marvin Yancey may have joined the group later, but it was after they had already reached their peak. He does not appear in their promo photos or album covers. He was not present when I saw them in concert in early 1973.

You're right Splanky. I fact Marvin sang on their first record. Robert Pruter in his book writes that Jackson and Yancey decided to create a group for their song "Just As Long As You Need Me" : "An album was released "The First Time We Met", featuring besides the voices of Yancy and Jackson two new voices, those of Helen Curry and Maurice Jackson [[no relation)....For the second album "Chuck, Helen, Eric Maurice" Yancy , who prefered the behind the scenes work, was replaced with Eric Thomas"

I also found this great thread of the old SDF : http://faac.us/adf/messages/188095/1...tml?1235486484

It was on February 2009 and there was one Marv...
