1967 Detroit riots had profound impact on arts, including music and Motown

Hard to believe it's been 50 years this month since the great riot:

What a pity the historian think it was Mary Wells along with Florence Ballard that sang with Diane in the Supremes. I thought everyboddy in Detroit knew who Mary Wilson is. Im hoping someone corrects Mr ken Coleman.

Thanks for sharing the clip Marv2. And there's a movie coming out next month based on the Detroit Riots.

I performed for a show and put a band together at the last minute at the State Fairgrounds band shell for the 82nd and 101st airborne units where thousands of Federal troops were staged during the riot. Doubt they included it in the film though...I would add that were Berry Gordy Jr teetering on moving the bulk of his company to Los Angeles...this situation could have been what pushed him over the edge...Even though Los Angeles had also incurred riots [[Watts)...that was pretty well confined to a specific area of the city where the Detroit riots spread throughout the city and infused fear and uncertainty throughout the Metro area...
