    A ballad...with a beat.
Usually big productions, mid 60s soulful tracks . Think Righteous Brothers' "you've lost that lovin' feelin'"....in that style.
In the formative years of the Northern Soul scene, beat ballads very often got player at the end of a session....commonly referred to as "enders", as the event wound to a close.
Years later, as the scene was affected by many pioneers leaving...getting married, families etc, and most of the dancers having been discovered and played, the hard core fans adopted a more collectable style of records, often playing mid tempo/beat ballads. These records were ,in the main, considered too slow in the NS heyday. But beat ballads became popular in their own right and rightly so...great soul music.
A number of beat ballad CDs are available.
Re Soulful shack, you can open the link and play the show....whilst opening a second browser to surf/scroll web....with SS in the background.
